My kids and I at Crater Lake, August, 2009.
Like so many others I have tried and failed to lose weight for my entire life. I was a size 14 in high school, 20 when I got married. I had some success with Weight Watchers about 5 years ago and lost about 40 pounds, and now find myself about where I was when I began that time. This time around though, my motivation comes less from just wanting to be skinny, and more about how I feel. Mostly I feel tired, all the time. I am fearful that I am getting old faster than I should, and I know that being this heavy just makes everything that much harder. I want energy! I want to feel good more often, I want to climb stairs without being winded. I am ready, I am tired of being tired, this time I am going to do this!
Update 1/10 - My last attempt in October didn't last very long, I don't know why it is I continually try and fail. I know I feel better when I am eating right, I know I have more energy when I am exercising. I am not going to give up though, I refuse to admit I will be fat forever! I am doing this thing...
Update 3/1/10 - I have been doing great this year! So far I have lost 21 pounds! I have decided that I need to have more specific short term goals, so here are my goals for March...
1. Drink 8-12 glasses of water EVERY day
2. Exercise at least 15 minutes EVERY day- more if I have time. If I miss a day I will make it up later in the week. By the end of March I will be able to jog 2 miles without stopping.
3. Hit 10% lost by the end of March - that's 24 pounds. Totally doable...
Update 9/4/10 - I had a slow summer, sort of lost my steam in the weeks leading up to my vacation, then went totally off the wagon during my cruise, then took several weeks to bounce back. I am now on day 10 of a back to basics streak and feeling strong! The weight is starting to come off again too, and I'm getting comments at work every day from people. I have now lost 48 pounds and am officially more than half way there and only 2 pounds away from a major milestone - I will not be obese anymore!
Update 1/1/11: Well, I weigh 2 pounds more than I did 6 months ago. Last year I made a resolution to lose weight and I did - 50 pounds in the first 7 months. Then I lost steam and faltered and gained and lost and gained again. Today I am making a new resolution for a new year to lose the rest of this weight. I am 46 pounds to goal, that is less than I lost last year, I am going to finish this thing this year!
My long term goal is to be healthier at 40 than I was at 20. I am going to be 37 this year, so I have some time to get there.
OK, so more specifically...
