Hi, my name is Katie Maradiaga, I have been a member of Spark People for just about 4 & 1/2 years now and I love it! It has motivated me many times to get out and get active! I originally joined this website to lose a bit of weight for my wedding in June of 2009 but my weight loss story doestn't start there. You see, I have always been a fit person having been a swimmer almost my entire life. When I was younger my mom had put me in swim lessons and when I got pretty good she realized it was just cheaper to pay for me to be on the swim team! From that day when she enrolled me up until my first year of college I have a been swimming continuously! In my high school years I was always very energetic and spunky, and skinny! Once into my college years I had decided to try out for the UNLV swim team as a walk on since my times were not fabulous enough to qualify myself for a scholarship. In those few weeks of tryouts I learned a lot about myself. I realized I had been swimming so long I had pushed myself so much the last little bit to be my best that I had burned myself out and had forgotten how fun swimming really was for me, not to mention the fact that I had thrown my knee out pretty bad during one of the running days that we did stairs...it hurt so bad I could hardly walk. So to not have to see others who had qualified for the team and to not feel bad I quit swimming all together. There was very few times I swam between that point and when I began swimming again a few years ago (2010) around memorial day. Over the course of my college years (which I only had about 2 years of college due to my decision to serve an LDS mission) I had gained the freshman 15 and then a little bit because I had very few meals I could cook myself so I either ate at the cafeteria or cooked convenience foods, not to mention the midnight or so runs to "Jack in the Box." Once on my mission I lost weight in the Missionary Training Center, and then even more weight in the mission. Upon returning home from my mission to Honduras in April 2006 I found myself slim and fit weighing in at approximately 145 pounds. While on my mission I learned spanish and I also learned many qualities about myself that I never knew I possessed. I grew and changed a lot. Since i got home and began to date my now husband of 4 & 1/2 years, I got comfortable with him a little too soon and began to gain weight. At first I tried to blame it on the birth control pills, then the fact that I could out eat him got to us both! He didn't feel as "manly" because I could eat more at each meal than him so he started to stuff himself until he would almost get sick, and I thinking I still needed to beat him would eat more thinking that my body was like my high school body and that I had a high enough metabolism that I wouldn't gain weight! So needless to say in the time we were dating and in the first year and a half we have been married I gained 40 pounds. So since memorial day(2010) I have started swimming and really trying to eat healthier! I know I can lose this weight, and I am excited to be on here so please become friends with me so we can motivate eachother!! By the way I love the color green! I have everything in it... my swimsuit, my towel, my ipod, my waterbottle and all that!

My Program:
My major form of exercise is swimming!I usually Swim at least 3x-5x a week I have always loved swimming and always will, I would rather swim than run, but have been doing a lot of both lately, along with some weight training 3x a week.
I usually run at least 2x a week and sometimes do workout videos when I can't get to the gym!

Thanks for your comment on my blog!! I love the smart-phone list-tasking idea-- awesome! I do not have a smart-phone now (just a dumb one) ;) but I may consider it as I get closer to self-employment. It would be nice to have a "work phone" as well.... so I'm not getting client calls on my personal phone (we don't have a home phone, so it's my primary).
