Hi Everyone -
My name is Kathleen and I am a 59 year old Special Education Teacher. Until the age of 42, I was at a healthy weight...and then my metabolism slowed down to nothing. Instead of a permanent healthy eating style, I began a series of quick weight loss diets. Over the years, I yo-yoed, and found myself with an extra 90 pounds at the end of 10 years. Another teacher friend who was successful with Spark's eating plan recommended I try it.
I love this! It's just like I used to eat in my healthy days. I'm a new member but I've already lost almost 8 pounds in the first week. I'm getting moving!
My goal is to get back into the great shape I was in 10 years ago and learn more about aging, nutrition, and exercise so that I can stay healthy for many more years to come!
To get back to the healthy eating habits and activity level of my younger years. To keep myself aware of the food I am eating, and avoid the extreme diets and fasting that have had a negative impact on my metabolism. To not settle for extra weight just because of my age and the greater difficulty in maintaining healthy weight. To eat right and exercise so I can live longer for my husband, children, grandchildren....and myself.
As a new member of Sparks, I am re-familiarizing myself with correct portions, recommended levels of fruits, vegetables, carbs, and protein. I am setting goals for fitness that include regular cadio exercises and aerobic activity. I am getting together with fit friends to share in their stories, and learn more discipline from them. I also walk, exercise, and eat some meals with them.
