I'm in my 50's, with 2 grown sons (wonderful young men!) and a great husband.

I am working on improving some of my lifestyle habits so that I can keep my good health into old age.

I love this quote that I read on someone else's Spark page:

"I can't lose 100 pounds....
but, maybe I can lose five pounds twenty times."

My Goals:
My goal is to do cardio and strength training exercise at least 3 times a week. I also track my food intake daily.

Update: After reaching my all-time highest weight of 197 about a year ago, I am now down to 167. I was finally forced into changing my habits when my acid reflux got so problematic that I was in pain much of the time. I have made great strides in cleaning up my diet and other lifestyle changes that GERD necessitates.

Major goal #1:
Reach 169 pounds (no longer obese) - Goal met February 2016!
Major goal #2:
Reach 140 pounds (no longer overweight)

Mini goals:
Get below 190
185 met
180 met
175 met
170 met
165 met 3/7/2016
160
155
etc, until final goal is obtained

I'll be experimenting with eating plans and increasing my exercise and activity levels. I'll also be keeping records and journaling about my progress.


My Program:
I'm concentrating mainly on my diet. I read the book "Dropping Acid: The Reflux Diet and Cookbook."This was recommended to me by a nutritionist. I'm following the guidelines in the book to get my acid reflux under control and hopefully get off the medicine I'm taking for GERD. I am definitely eating a healthier diet now, and losing weight as well.
My exercise consists mostly of walking for cardio, with some resistance and light weight training thrown in.



Personal Information:
I live in Georgia, where the winters are mild and the summers are HOT. I have lived here all of my life (except for an 11 month period in Tennessee) and I LOVE Georgia. It's beautiful, the people are friendly, and it's home.


Other Information:
My sister kept bugging me to check out SparkPeople because she thought it would help me. She knew I was struggling with finding the motivation to stick to my exercise program and eat well for weight management. I'm glad she kept bugging me, because I've found that tracking my food intake and my exercise really DO motivate me.

    I actually find crochet easier. Check out your local JoAnn store. I'm the education coordinator for my store and teach crochet and knit. They're nice stress relievers for me. They may not be for you, but hopefully you can find an art or craft that is

    The poem Don't Quit has motivated me many, many times, so I'm glad you also think it is motivating. I visited your spark page and it sounds like you are doing well with your exercise. Good for you!! And yes, I don't know if I can lose 100 pounds, but I can lose 20 pounds 5 times. Love it.
