Every little bit counts

I'm roughly half-way through my weight-loss journey. It's slow -- I've lost a little over 40 pounds in the last year -- but because I've established such a consistent commitment over that time, I know the weight will stay off and that I can do this forever.

I've never thought of myself as "fat" or anything less than normal. I truly believe that health is much more than weight. With that said, I love the feeling of "closet shopping" -- finding clothes in my closet that I had gotten too big for -- and I never want to be in a position of being in any way compromised because of my dietary choices. I'm 34 years old and do NOT want to be 40, 50, 60, or 70 and be told I've made myself sick by being overweight. I've been healthy this far and plan to keep myself that way!

I am goal-focused and know I feel my personal best when I'm reaching my food and fitness goals. We can do this!

My Goals:
I started off my current SparkPeople journey in fall of 2012 and was a size 14/16 then. I'm now a size 12 and would love to be an 8/10. More importantly than size or weight, though, I just want to keep feeling healthy.

My main goal is just to keep going with the lifestyle I've established, but I'd also love to be able to run 5K in under 30 minutes. After starting and restarting Couch to 5K many times over the years, I finally completed it in Spring of 2013.

I want to continue to challenge myself to be the best version of me that I can be.

My Program:
Moderation is key for me -- if I want this to truly be a forever lifestyle, I have to allow for flexibility in all areas. I also believe that small changes can really add up to make a huge difference.

I've been a vegetarian for more than half of my life and eat vegan at home. I respect everyone's right to their own dietary choice, but I know I feel at my best when I don't eat animal ingredients. I'm whole foods focused -- I don't typically eat much processed food.

I practice yoga several times a week, run 4 days a week, and do lighter cardio at least two out of the other days each week.

I make sure to track on SparkPeople EVERY DAY. When I stop tracking, I'm usually eating poorly.

Again, moderation. There are some weeks when I miss a workout or eat a little more than I'd like and *that's okay*. The key is picking back up where I left off and continuing to put one foot in front of the other.

Other Information:
My blog posts are pretty exclusively titled with 80's lyrics. I'm a child of the 80's and do think 80's songs are totally fun, but with that said, it's not like I listen to them all the time.

When I first restarted Couch to 5K I was listening to 80s music and it really kept me going so I decided to use 80s lyrics for my blog titles. I mix it up a little now, but I still love finding the perfect lyrics for my blog entries =)

Thanks for the blog comment about meditation. I was trying to have complete peace and quiet for at least 15 minutes to meditate (I normally do a guided meditation, sometimes with silence). Now I'm trying to be more flexible. I have a 5 year old, I can't count on that alone time EVERY day, so I'm relaxing and finding other ways :)

I'll have to try this thing called chocolate tea!!!! Yeah it was more of the fact that I ate too much lunch and had a smoothie so close to bed. But it definitely could have been worse.

Hi! Yeah, I figured my spark friends probably thought I gave up LOL. I didn't! I did relax over vacation and still haven't weighed since we've been back, but I think I did ok.
