03/28/12-I'm a happily married 40 y.o. mother of a 19 y.o., a 15 y.o., and a fur baby (Pom). When I first joined SparkPeople in 2009, it was more-so because I had quit smoking and wanted to be fit and healthy, inside AND out. Here I am, 3 years later, with more pounds on me than ever (except for when I was pregnant with my children). And I'm certain that I'm no healthier on the inside.
I was a runner (yes, as a smoker) from about 2001 to 2007 and have never been in better shape in my WHOLE life! Then I just kind of quit exercising and eating well. It WAS a lifestyle. I had never even eaten my own birthday cake since I was 10 y.o. Not because of any diet, but because I just didn't care for sweets. Boy, did THAT change! I had a piece of my birthday cake on my 35th birthday and have become ADDICTED to sugar, more specifically, CHOCOLATE! If you can imagine, I started baking and even started my own baking blog!!!!
When I quit smoking 11/5/08, I found out that I had COPD! Can you imagine?! Boy, was I upset about that! Running became very difficult on my lungs, even with 2 inhalers. So, I guess you could say I just gave up on any kind of exercise, and I certainly wasn't eating healthy! I've dabbled a little here and there, even lost 14 lbs last year, only to gain that PLUS MORE back!
Then in the fall of 2011, my daughter went away for her first year in college, my mother died in Septemer, and I turned 40 in October! I used my depression from missing my daughter and losing my mother as another excuse not to care.
Hopefully my mindset has changed, permanently! I've never filled out my "introduction" on here before. I'm starting to think that this is necessary to truly begin a journey to a permanent healthy lifestyle. If I continue to keep this journey to myself, I may never make a "healthy" lifestyle a "permanent" lifestyle because I'm never truly being held accountable.
As of today, my husband and I are exercising together, and he is eating "clean" with me. That is a tremendous help! Before, I was on my own. Hubby and kids ate all of the stuff that I WANTED to eat.
In the past 2 months, hubby has lost about 20lbs. I just began (again) 9 days ago, and I've lost 6.2lbs already!!!! I know that my body won't keep that up, but that only leaves 20lbs left to reach my goal weight. I'm good with that!
I've only been 40 y.o. for 5 months, but boy-oh-boy, your body really DOES change when you hit 40!
Here's to "permanent" new beginning!
I'm not trying to "look" like I did 10 years ago, or even 5 years ago. I just want to be healthier, more fit and feel better in my skin. At this point, my goal weight is 130. Of course, I reserve the right to adjust that at any time. ;)

Thanks for the encouraging comment on my blog. Getting there - I always find it hard to get back to it, but once I am there I will be fine. Weather is terrible for the week which is not helping - need to do more indoors.
