I'm was reading your blog from yesterday and the responses when your message came in. I haven't responded but you already know how I feel about this. And what I just posted on the boards is very true and in line with your blog. SP encouraged an atmosphere of emotional investment and now they say that "it's just business". I truly am troubled that there has been no response, no message from "Spark Guy", no nothing! To ignore how the changes have impacted certain members w/issues seems totally uncaring.
And you can see that I am slowly turning "my" Spark page to nothing. I no longer trust that SP will not use the information there for targeted advertisements:
Hi Casey, I was also very disappointed. But if we take Spark People's lessons seriously, we should feel empowered to make positive change. This means changing our information like you have. My theory is that the reason the person spark changes were made was to provide additional advertising space. Chris and his team probably think that the way to keep Spark People competitive is by increasing revenue and services. If we disagree with this approach, we can act as empowered consumers and block the ads. If enough people do this, it will show that we prioritize community over growth of services. It would also be worthwhile for someone to continue to do research about Spark's business structure. What kind of business entity is it? Is it privately held by Chris and his wife? I too have a white background. I miss my "wallpaper"! No color can express me but I too have white as this new format pales in comparison. I changed my SP name too too.
