Jerry & Karen. Rehearsal Dinner - Aug. 27, 1980. That was then...
Connolly Family - Feb. 22, 2003 - All my boys still at home. One week later, that would change!
My name is Karen. I am the mother of 8 sons and wife of Jerry (my best friend) for 34 years and counting. I have been overweight all my life and 1 of my 3 central goals in my life is to find a way to manage my body. I'm hoping to do that here!
On Sept 3, 2011, we were awakened at 5:00 am to a deputy sheriff at our door, informing us that our oldest son had died in Round Rock, TX, in his apt alone, after calling 911 saying he couldn't breathe. He left the door open for them and they were quickly on site but he was already unresponsive and could not be resuscitated. Ryan was 28 years old and died suddenly from Deep Vein Thrombosi and Pulmonary Emboli - blood clots in his legs that split off and made their way into his lungs to steal his last breath and his life.
The landscape of my life has become unrecognizable with this loss. But I find that my greatest comfort now comes from trying to live my life in a way that would make Ryan proud of his mother. That is goal #1! Anything good that follows that is just greater comfort and joy.
I only have 3 goals in my life. But in my defense, they are REALLY big goals! My first is to acquire and maintain control of my body and/or my weight. Optimum health is Goal #1
My second goal is to raise my eight sons to be confident, productive contributions to society and have time to enjoy being alone with my husband again. To look back on a full life with no regrets for the things I DIDN''T do. No Regrets is Goal #2
My third goal is to be a published author someday. A prosperous, prolific writer is what I would most like to be, for myself. To see my books selling in the bookstores is Goal #3
Taking it in little bits. Kinda like that riddle. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
I take life one day at a time and when even that is more than I can manage, I break it down by hours and then by minutes.
My name is Karen. I originally hail from Colorado but was transplanted to Texas 32 years ago and have been in SE Texas (Louisiana West) Since 1977. Hoping to relocate to NM after kids are grown and husband is retired.
I love music, playing and listening. Love to write, read, watch movies, study and sip wines from around the world, watch my kids march in marching band, travel with my husband to see our grown children, make new friends, I''ll write more when I think of it ~

Don't know what drew me to your site today but there is comfort in sorrow I suppose. Although it isn't mentioned on my page, I also lost a son (age 21) several years ago and know how our lives are defined by that loss. Odd thing is that today is his birthday!
Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone today.

"Every day of our lives we are faced with a choice.
The choice to BE, or to be truly AMAZING.
Ask yourself if what you're doing today is getting you closer to where you want to be tomorrow.
No matter who you are, or what you do, you absolutely, positively do have the power to TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE."
Hey Sparkfriend, I hope your week is going great so far. Make the most of each day as it comes, and choose to be amazing! Put forth your best effort....because you are worth it!

"Whenever you make a mistake or get knocked down by life, don't look back at it too long.
Mistakes are life's way of teaching you. Your capacity for occasional blunders is inseparable from your capacity to reach your goals.
No one wins them all, and your failures, when they happen, are just part of your growth. Shake off your blunders.
How will you know your limits without an occasional failure? Never quit. Your turn will come."
Just stopping by to wish you a healthy week, Spark friend! If you fall down, get back up and keep pushing forward. I hope you know that you're always worth your best effort...because you really are!

"Three of the most powerful words in the English language are 'I AM RESPONSIBLE.' It's tough to do, but when the day comes that you can say those words, believe them, and mean them, it will be the most liberating moment of your life. Taking responsibility for all of your results, for better or for worse, is taking back your power to create results in your life."
Its up to you to make your goals and dreams a reality, Sparkfriend! Take responsibility, and do your best each day to make progress. You are totally worth the effort, you know!
I hope your week has been great so far!

"Just because we are knocked down does not mean that we are out.
We still have breath in our lungs and tears flowing down - all signs that we are alive!
Take a deep breath and be reminded that often our biggest struggles are stepping stones to our greatest victories."
Just stopping by to wish you a healthy, happy week, Spark friend! Keep your goals in mind and keep pushing yourself every day to get closer. It isn't easy, but never forget that you are worth the effort!
