Don't let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game!

Hi friends!

Where to begin... like most of you I have struggled with my weight my entire life. I was never thin growing up, would never pick something healthy over junk, never saw the point of exercising. While I was never thin, I remember my weight getting completely out of control in college after a terrible break up with my first love. I didn't realize it at the time but I was drinking and eating to soothe myself. The last time I remember weighing myself on a scale I was 197 ...

The last time I remember weighing myself on a scale I was 197 pounds. I am only 5'2 so that is a pretty big number considering. I never weighed myself after that point until I started losing weight so I am sure I was at 200 at one point.

I am not sure exactly how it happened because I had tried to lose weight before and never got very far. I guess I was so terrified by reaching 200 pounds that something clicked. I started doing the South Beach Diet and lost a good amount of weight and then at some point I switched to weight watchers. I ended up losing around 50 pounds before I stopped. This was about 4 years ago and I have kept the majority of the weight off (I tend to fluctuate within 10 pounds depending on my motivation).

The problem is that I stopped before I got to my goal weight. Recently I have been binging A LOT- I'll gain up to a few pounds in a week and then the next week I will get back on track enough to lose it and then do the same cycle all over again. Being 5'2 I would like to get down to 120 pounds- I still have 30 to go! I know it is completely possible. I sucked it up and lost 50 before, I know how to do it, I have all the tools I need. Sparkpeople told me that if I lose 1 pound a week I can reach my goal THIS YEAR in August and that is exactly what I plan on doing!

"Whenever you make a mistake or get knocked down by life, don't look back at it too long.
Mistakes are life's way of teaching you. Your capacity for occasional blunders is inseparable from your capacity to reach your goals.
No one wins them all, and your failures, when they happen, are just part of your growth. Shake off your blunders.
How will you know your limits without an occasional failure? Never quit. Your turn will come."

"Three of the most powerful words in the English language are 'I AM RESPONSIBLE.' It's tough to do, but when the day comes that you can say those words, believe them, and mean them, it will be the most liberating moment of your life. Taking responsibility for all of your results, for better or for worse, is taking back your power to create results in your life."

"Just because we are knocked down does not mean that we are out.
We still have breath in our lungs and tears flowing down - all signs that we are alive!
Take a deep breath and be reminded that often our biggest struggles are stepping stones to our greatest victories."

“The whole idea of motivation is a trap. Forget motivation. Just do it. Exercise, lose weight, test your blood sugar, or whatever. Do it without motivation. And then, guess what? After you start doing the thing, that's when the motivation comes and makes it easy for you to keep on doing it.”
