Strong and Healthy

140/90. That was my blood pressure late March 2014. You know how you wait for the "click" to kick you into changing your habits? 140/90 was mine. I know that if I'm eating well, exercising and at a lower weight, then my pressure will be fine. So I let that be my click to choose again to nourish my body and to move it in ways that makes it say thank you.

Races on my schedule this year: a couple 5ks in May plus the Bay to Breakers 7 mile run to give me good training for a couple half ...

Races on my schedule this year: a couple 5ks in May plus the Bay to Breakers 7 mile run to give me good training for a couple half marathons coming up, one in July and another in October. More races probably along the way, but they are not currently on my radar. I started Pilates last year, and it's really made a difference in my posture and even in how I walk. A 2014 goal is to get more traditional strength training back into my life.

In case you guessed, exercise is much more in place than eating well has been. I've learned over the years that I nourish myself thoughtfully when I food journal. That's now back in place as of my March return to Spark.

I've Sparked enough over the last almost 6 years that I know what I need to lose weight in a happy way. Foodwise, that means eating lots of veggies and fruit, getting at least 30g fiber daily, drinking lots of water (especially because I exercise) and eating a pretty balanced mix of carbs, proteins, and fats per the Spark recommendations.

I've had my blood pressure checked a couple times in April, and thankfully they've both been solidly in normal range. My changes are making a difference already.

Wow! Way to keep me accountable! Well, today I did have my necessary high protein breakfast (diabetes) instead of the garbage I've been eating and then I wanted to be lazy like the day felt - cloudy and ugly from a night of rain. It just felt right to curl up with my book I need to finish by Book Club on Sunday. AND THEN you remarked on my status. Thanks! It got me off my butt and I went to the park and walked for 40 minutes followed by a stop at the store for some healthy sprouted grain bread I needed to pick up. I was rewarded with the sun coming out by the time I left the store and a new attitude on the day for me! I give you credit. Let me know how your run goes tonight!!!! emoticon

Thanks for asking about my needed direction. First I have to get my nutrition in order. It has been disastrous lately. As I am working on that I want to start thinking about the fitness end. I truly just started on the nutrition today. First step is the hardest!!! I think above anything motivation is going to be the hardest. I am having such a hard time finding it for so many reasons. I am working out in my head how to put the words into writing and maybe a blog. We'll see. What got you back here?
