Christie's Weight Loss Journey

September, 2014:
I'm starting again on my Spark journey. The past year and a half was difficult for me - I had a concussion, struggled with depression through last winter, started a new job this spring, and had a miscarriage at the beginning of July. September, 2014:
I'm starting again on my Spark journey. The past year and a half was difficult for me - I had a concussion, struggled with depression through last winter, started a new job this spring, and had a miscarriage at the beginning of July. I've had to do a lot of healing over the last 3 months, and my weight unfortunately went back up during that time. I'm finally hitting my stride with my job & ready to get back on track with my health. We're also still trying for baby #2 - it's been almost 5 years now.

My history:

I'm a 38 year old mother and wife. I graduated from my nursing degree in 2009 and work on an inpatient psychiatric unit in my home town. I've been overweight my entire adult life but in the last few years my weight was really bad, reaching a high of 260 lbs. from sometime in 2011 until I had a wake up call in July 2012. At that time, one of my coworkers had a heart attack. She was only 40 & her little girl is younger than mine. I've been very lucky that my weight hasn't yet affected my health, but it's only a matter of time. So I'm doing something about it now before I get to that point.

I've used Sparkpeople on & off for several years. I enjoy exercising but tend to stop doing it for long periods of time, usually when my energy is low. I usually eat lots of nutritious foods, but I just also eat a lot of junk. I've also struggled with seasonal depression since my daughter was born in 2004.

Current Status:
KALIKA! Difficult day yesterday - several days of short sleep will do that. But my eating wasn't horrible & I'm getting back on track today.

My Goals:
My long-term overall goal is to get below a BMI of 25. That means a weight of 153 lbs. However, this will (hopefully) be interrupted by a pregnancy. I am starting again at 255 lbs. on Sept 18/2014

GOAL ACHIEVED!
234 lbs. on Oct. 21/2012. This was 10% of my body weight lost.

Setback!
My life has been chaotic over the last year & a half. My first goal is to get off the weight that I gained back. I'm trying to reach 230 lbs. by Dec. 12/2014

My Program:
I go to Zumba classes generally 3 days a week. I have a pretty good set up for doing plyometric & strength exercises at home on other days.

Daily Goals
1. Exercise for at least 10 min.
2. Drink at least 3 litres of water (12 cups).
3. Eat at least 6 servings of fruits & vegetables.
4. Use my therapy light as needed (usually 15 to 30 min).
5. Talk about how I'm feeling through friends, family, or SparkPeople.
6. Stretch for 10 min.
7. Review my goals.

Weekly Goals
1. Do 150 min. of cardio.
2. Do full body strength training 2 times.
3. Blog at least once on Sparkpeople.

Personal Information:
I live in the Great White North (aka Canada).

I'm a huge geek/gamer girl - I started with Star Trek, Star Wars, and Wonder Woman when I was a kid, moved to Lord of the Rings & Dune when I was in my early teens, then D&D, and it all snowballed from there.
