Over 60 wants to be healthier

Hi Spark People! I must admit I was gone from SparkPeople for quite awhile. I am 61 now and have prediabetes. Yes it doesn't take much. You go on vacation and try some fancy restaurant. Relatives come from out of State and want to go to our fav Italian. Each time you gain a few pounds and it carrys over to the next year and the next and you think hell with it I'm going to enjoy myself and eat this yummy food. I'm a meat and potatoes kind of gal who hang with other meat and potatoes people and I have to change my ways.

My Goals:
My goals are to have a healthier lifestyle.

1. To get 8 hours of sleep even though I'm a night owl and have insomnia

2. Eat healthier specifically eating more vegetables and fruit

3. Get more fiber in my diet.

4. Get more exercise

5. Reduce stress

My Program:
Make a healthy meal or snack to bring to work. Nix the vending machines.

Exercise at least 3 time a week.

Get 8 hours of sleep per night.

Make time to exercise.

Other Information:
I love to read a wide variety of boooks from
mysteries to science ficion.
I like a lot of authors but my fav. author is Dean Koontz. In his books good always prevails over evil. I like that satisfaction, even though in real life you don't always get it. Lately, I've been reading a lot of John Grisham too.

i saw your comment about being tired and working nights. i was a night shift nurse for 15 years and loved the work routine and my coworkers. but my body started to really rebel/fall apart due to chronic sleep deprivation, not to mention the 30 pounds i put on in that time. i eventually had to change jobs. it took more than a year but i feel so much better, my stress level is more tolerable, i'm off bp meds, i can sit down in a chair and not fall asleep. i can totally sympathise with your situation. rest up.

HI! Hope you're still OK with the fires going one around you! Jeez!!

You're so lucky to have a dog park...our area is stalling on getting one..a petition has been submitted and now is stuck with our local government. I don't know what the problem is...they can benchmark easily with other communities that have them to see how they are run. We need one here.

Hey there fellow Wife! I heard you just got back from Vegas. I went there in Feb as my hubby had a training and I tagged along. I walked so much during the day when he was in class and then he wanted to go out afterwards so I can't even tell you how much walking I did there. The plus is I didn't gain anything so I must have walked a thousand miles! emoticon Hope you had fun after the bad restaurant the first nite! We'll have to compare notes!!!
