As a young girl the running joke was that I must have a tapeworm because I could eat ANYTHING and not gain a pound! Well, that string of luck ran out around 18. I had a job at the mall and spent most of my days eating fast food. Since I never had to worry about what I ate, I had no idea what a proper diet should be once I had to adopt one, let alone the discipline to maintain a healthy lifestyle. So I attempted the “easy route” trying every fad diet from Atkins to South Beach and just about every diet pill from Stacker to GNC's, every time winding up heavier than when I started once I’d weaned myself off. For almost 10 years now I’ve yo-yo'd between a svelte 110lbs to my max, 160lbs on a petite 5'2" frame!!
Just before my wedding in October 05 I lost enough weight to be happy about my wedding pics but quickly started gaining it back after the honeymoon. Within the first year I gained at least 20lbs! My husband admitted he was ready to be married to a “chubby” girl and love me for who I am but I couldn’t accept and love MYSELF. Finally, the realization hit me – being overweight is no fun! Yes, food is delicious but nothing tastes as good as the feeling of fitting into a great pair of jeans, putting on a cute fitted top and knowing it looks great, getting the “double look” from the one you love (and strangers ;) and carrying yourself with confidence. My attitude is completely different when I’m heavy – I’m miserable, angry (mostly at myself but quick to take it out on the ones nearest and dearest), insecure about the way my clothes fit (or mostly, don't) and a total home body, not wanting to go anywhere with anyone.
This year (2007) I’m finally ready to make the changes needed to be the confident, outgoing and beautiful person I once was. Although it seems so long ago, I remember her; the young, vibrant girl that was always smiling, couldn’t wait to be in pictures and had a love of life. I’m still that girl, deep inside waiting to be released, and at 28 I’m young enough to do it and enjoy the results. After watching my mother (BEMORESTUBBORN) sacrifice and struggle to successfully lose weight for my wedding, I know anything is possible. She is my inspiration and a constant reminder not to wait until it’s too late because you’ll regret all the years you could have enjoyed being healthy and looking great (and boy does she)!
I'm happier than I’ve ever been in my life and I want my body to reflect that.
