Well I have been away from Spark for a long time. My husband died in May 2015, after a long illness. I've moved from the home we shared together to a smaller place with a fenced in yard that lets me have my dogs.

I wrote that in 2015. Here I am starting again, January 2018. My cholesterol is up. I'm determined to get it down through diet and exercise.

30 minutes aerobic a day, plus the dozen or so strengthening and stretching exercises that my physical therapy taught me to do for my scoliosis and degeneration in my spine.

I'm also cutting back on alcohol and following a lower carb version of the Mediterranean diet.

Wish me luck on my upteenth time of trying to get myself back in shape.

My Goals:
My new goal is to lower my cholesterol numbers without taking medication. I've given myself 6 weeks to get the numbers down (270 total right now).

In addition to eating healthy, whole foods without wheat or sugar, I am getting more exercise in my daily routine.

It worked before, it can work again!

My Program:
I'm cutting back on sugar, wheat and processed food, also I'm trying to work out at least an hour every morning. I'm cutting back on the alcohol too.

Personal Information:
I spend my best days wandering around the Illinois River Valley, photographing the wildlife that I see.

Other Information:
I love to read novels by Joyce Carol Oates, Virginia Woolf, Emily and Charlotte Bronte, Kurt Vonnegut, John Irving, John Updike, and many others. I'm currently reading Peyton Place by Grace Metalious and Mysteries of Winterthurn by Joyce Carol Oates.

I also love to research genealogy for both my family and my husband's.

Jane, I read an article that said one way to determine if someone was going to live longer was whether they could get up off the ground without help. Squats help that for sure!

    Hi Jane,
Welcome to Grain Brain. I am so glad you found us and joined the team on your journey to health. DH and myself are off medications for migraines, seizures, rosacea, hypertension, gerd, and gout. Almost two years of primal eating. I think grains and sugars pose serious health risks. We incidentally lost lots of weight and feel ten years younger. I joined lots of teams from everyone's page and read a lot.
    Hugs new friend,
    Dayle
