I'm a work in progress

I'm a mom to three kids: 17 yr old identical twin girls and an 11 yr old boy with PDD-NOS ("mild autism" for the layman). I'm also wife to a shiftworker. I'm lucky to have a job that I enjoy - even though it means I'm on my butt all day.

I've always been a "chunky" person, ever since I was young - at least near the top of my BMI. Now, I've entered into the obese category. Time is passing: I'm getting older and my metabolism doesn't offer any kindness.

I'd like to be able to get my act together and lose 40-60 lbs, and keep it off. However, in the meantime, life goes on, and while I'm not satisfied with my fat self, I'm not going to let it ruin my self-image.

My Goals:
- to meet my weekly exercise goals
- to stop being concerned about what other people think
- to be a fantastic mother
- to be more receiving of compliments, rather than watering them down
- to be less critical of myself
- to lose weight (my ideal is to fit into the healthy BMI range)

My Program:
Weekly exercise goals:
- cardio (usually elliptical) at least 3 sessions for 45 min each, or the equivalent
- 2 sessions of strength training
- 30 "V-ups" 4 times a week, plus some other ab work

Personal Information:
My most important job is raising my three children to become productive members of society. I'm confident my daughters are well on their way, but I have big worries about my son. He just lacks some of the necessary skills, but I vow never to give up helping him to do for himself.

Other Information:
I am a frequent movie goer, preferring comedy and drama. I am an avid reader: magazines, non-fiction books, and of course, autism related material.
I love the saying "fall down 7 times, get up 8"- and that's kind of my story.

I firmly believe that you teach people how to treat you. I've had to set up some pretty tough boundaries in order to take care of my emotional self, but it has been very beneficial in the longer term. I am not a doormat!

emoticon emoticon I am proud- yes he is smart but he works soooo hard! So I am double proud of him. Next May one of my daughters will graduate college and my DS will graduate high school and my nephew is getting married and I am turning 54 emoticon It is going to be an emotional roller coaster and of course major motivation to get this weight off!
I am being an angel now and when end of may or June comes I will emoticon but not for more than one day- more than that is what got me in trouble!

Thanks for dropping by my blog, Brenda! Interesting question . . . I needed a chuckle this morning! Nothing was excluded, which was another plus for this diet (no food group should ever be totally eliminated in a healthy diet--even chocolate!) emoticon

Just make sure you're moving the line forward. Move forward. Take baby steps, but at least take steps that keep you from being stuck. Then change will come.
