Rideau Trail Nut

There are some goals that you don't even know you have. You act as if..... because you really don't believe you can.... and if you don't ACT as if it is possible, then there is no possibility of success, right? Then surprise! One day you realize you did it. And it is.... very emotional... realizing you could reach a goal. Realizing what or who you really want to be. Realizing you can do anything one step at a time.

"It is hard to have confidence in yourself. So tempting to give up after trying and failing. Yet we all MUST keep trying. Success is just waiting to happen and we have to give it a chance." I wrote this to an SP member and was so struck by my own words that I decided to copy it onto my page to read again and again when I feel like giving up. Who knew I was so smart?

"To have faith, is to trust yourself to the water.
When you swim you don't grab hold of the water,
because if you do you will sink and drown.
Instead you relax, and float."

I joined SP in July 2008 and have seen small but definite changes in my life. I don't try as hard as I used to and funny enough that has been a good thing. I used to do diet or take on hard fitness programs.. and quit. I'd sabatoge myself or life would happen and I would give up. Now, I exercise regularly and with more variety. I have learned to eat with an awareness of carbs, fats and protein and spread my food over the day. I rest and get better sleep. I have trimmed my blogs and kept the meaningful ones. It's a slow journey for me but I realized today it is downhill since I came to SP. That's a GOOD thing, lol. I have diabetes and am in my late 40's so, you know, it is really hard to have the scale show my progress. I have let that go. It is about being accountable and as I get used to a new "habit" making it a part of my lifestyle. I think my new friends on SP will continue to challenge and inspire me to be all that I can!

SP has shown me that I can live healthier. I have physical goals, eating goals, drinking water goals, sleeping goals, lol - sexy goals... and I want to feel strong, fit and toned. SP is also helping me control my blood sugars. I am learning to live now the way I want to live in the future. The bonus is I am losing weight.

Physically: I swim, do aquafit. I'm a Rideau Trail Nut because I am writing a historical fiction about the building of the Rideau Canal which goes from Ottawa to Kingston and I am determined to walk the length of it. I have an artificial knee and need rides because I only do a few km at a time. I love to walk and have gotten up to 2 hours I can do now without being bedridden the next day. I can't go 2 days in a row yet as I am too sore... but it is miraculous progress.

Kids - one adult disabled child lives at home with us. Two in University. We have a friend's son also living with us while he goes to college.

Hubby - yup and a great support though he is a workaholic.

Work- My friends here have helped me through renovation stress after a disaster withour indoor pool! I run a small bed and breakfast which is back in full swing. Guests keep me hopping. That and my book.

Problems: My biggest problem is consistancy. Life happens. I balk at failure and at success. That's the beauty of SP because it helps me build healthy habits. When something goes wrong... which is always does... SP helps me regroup my goals and continue on. I'm in for the journey!

"If you can't fly then run. If you can't run then walk. If you can't walk then crawl. But whatever you do, keep moving." - Martin Luther King, Jr Keep moving, keep going forward and keep in mind it is the journey that matters.

My Goals:
My huge goal is to lose 50 pounds. I want to be toned and smaller. but my smaller goals are to tone up my arms, decrease the size of my apron belly and keep walking on the Trail.

Goals met: The scale has moved and I have lost 20 pounds! I have walked 100 km of Rideau trail. I feel better and more toned. My blood sugars are now always single digits!

New Goals:
1. Continue to lose a pound a month.
Reward at 25 pounds loss: an overnight trip with my hubby somewhere special.
2. Get to Smiths Falls walking on the trail. Reward - a day at Upper Canada Village to write. done!
3. Get my Fasting blood sugars under 7 every day. Reward - a hair makeover. Done!
4. Penny jar challenge - get enough to buy the new Diana Gabaldon book with a penny per spark point!

My Program:
Water walking
Water jogging
Water weights
Far Infra red Sauna

Gardening (because I have to)
Strengthening exercises
Walking the Rideau Trail (because I love to)

Personal Information:
I was born in the UK and moved 14 times by the time I was 14 then stopped counting. I have lived near Ottawa Canada since my children were born. I am spiritual. My husband and I are best friends and I have scattered friends across Canada. I was an Occupational Therapist but now run the B&B which is all year which keeps me busy especially weekends!

Other Information:
I love Diana Gabaldon as an author. My eldest daughter has Asperger's and other health issues and will probably live at home many more years, issues which bleed a lot of my emotions and time, but I love her. My other two daughters are amazing and awesome and moving gradually away from home. I love rocks and trees and water.

AF stands for Alcohol Free days (as part of my team Cutting the booze - calories team)... Daily drinking infringes on our weight loss goals... going to aim for a great week and maybe hold off on the drinks until Friday when I'm off :-)

Hi Justyna,
When I had to cancel last Thursday, I was a bit worried that by Sunday I would have been feeling great, and regretted my decision. However, I guess that I made the right decision because I'm still sick and I simply wouldn't have enjoyed myself, let alone get myself there and back. Please write to me and tell me how the meet and greet went. How many people did you have? Thank you for your 'get well' wishes. Anxious to hear from you.
Irene
P.S. Thank you for the Goodie
