I started with SparkPeople in February 2008 weighing the most I ever have at 158 pounds. While sitting in my doctor's office crying from depression, I picked up a magazine that had an article about SP, wrote the web address on a piece of paper, found it among a stack of receipts weeks later and decided to see what it was all about. WoW!

While sitting in my doctor's office crying from depression, I picked up a magazine that had an article about SP, wrote the web address on a piece of paper, found it among a stack of receipts weeks later and decided to see what it was all about. WoW!

SP has given me the motivation, desire, tools and so much support that I needed to finally do something about all the weight I had gained. I don't want to live longer... I just want to live as healthy as I can in the days and years I have left and SP is teaching me exactly how to do it!

I don't diet. I don't deprive myself of any foods that I enjoy. I practice Portion Control and meditate to keep my mind on my goal. I am now constantly aware of what goes in my mouth and I record every single thing every single day. I force myself to get my Cardio in every day and Strength Training a couple days a week. Copy the 10 Commandments for Permanent Fat Removal I have posted here and put it where you can see it every day and LIVE it! Slowly but surely a new you will appear in your mirror and that's a good thing! Your clothes will fit better and your mood will definitely improve as the new you appears.

I'm 52, married 22 years to a very supportive best friend and soul mate and we have 2 sons. Our 20 y/o left Sunday, Nov. 23rd, 2008 for Air Force Basic Training in San Antonio, TX totally breaking my heart and will graduate in January, 2009. Our 17 y/o is a senior in HS attending Jr. College 1/2 days learning auto mechanics and MSU in the afternoons working in the photography dept. He graduates in May 2009.

We live in the beautiful Ozarks in Springfield, Missouri but Colorado will always be home.

Hi Gwen,

I see you're fairly new to Military Mama's and Papa's. I know it's tough when your children go off to do something with the military. My daughter is in the Navy. She did a 6 month tour in Iraq from December 07 until June 08. When she first left, I was a basket case. With lots of support from this group, I made it through. Our kids really grow up in a positive way from their military experiences.

I see your son finished hi basic. Where does he go now?

Helen
