Scare of my Life

I am a mother of 3 boys. Ages 7, 5 and 4 yrs old. My baby was born with a cleft lip/palate.

My boys keep me on my toes. I am a SAHM and a writer. Soon to be starting my own home business making and selling bath and beauty products on Etsy. I am also the proud owner of a great blog called mommatalks.net and working on writing a book about a girl who is dealing with being sexually assaulted. I enjoy reading, writing, music, photography, online games, watching Pretty Little Liars and Switched at Birth. I enjoy getting out and walking on brisk fall days. I want to get back into the hobby of taking nature pictures and photographs of my children at play.

I have been on Sparkpeople for almost 4 years now. I have had my ups and downs of losing weight then gaining it back due to stress and falling back into some old habits. A lot of those habits due to my health is going out the door. My contributor has been my husband. He is bad about piling my plate full of food and saying you don't look healthy knowing I hate wasting food. This is how I actually gained my weight right before I turned 22 yrs old. I am trying to get back in my old habits I had prior to our relationship.

I love green tea and salads. I am a huge fresh fruits and veges fan. Due to cost of things though I do have to settle for frozen over fresh at times.

I found out via a Self Diagnosis and medical info that I am pre-diabetic and apparently I have a hyperactive pancreas which causes my blood sugar to drop when I eat bad stuff. This was a week ago when this was found out. Also found out that this is probably why I gained so much weight so fast even when I wasn't hardly eating due to stress. This explains a lot of how I have been feeling for some years now. This is giving me the incentive to actually get up and walk at least 15 mins and to watch what goes on my plate. My husband also has stopped pressuring me about my eating habits. He doesn't tell me I need this and I need that anymore. I eat 3 smallish meals and usually two snacks. Most of my snacks are after lunch and then before I go to bed, because this is the time of the day when I seem to get hungriest after eating. I always start getting hungry 2 hours after eating, because this is when my blood sugar starts it's plummet. I am hoping to drop 10 - 15 lbs within 3 months.

I have already cut out white bread, mayo and drink more water than anything else. I drink a green tea once in a while and sweet tea if we go out to eat. I do substitute french fries for something like Steamed Broccoli when we go out to eat. I still eat my same ole pasta, but also enjoy whole grain pasta. I eat toasted wheat bread for anything like sandwiches or toast. Mustard is now my new fave condiment. Just with these small adjustments I have lost 1 lbs a week. It is amazing how more water, less sugar, less bad carbs and fats and smaller portions help you shed a few inches and lbs a week.

My Goals:
To take control of my Life, My stress and the Gilbert's Syndrome that causes me illness most of the time.

I want to be able to go for a walk and not get winded because of my asthma.

My Program:
I am not going to type up a lot of stuff I probably will not stick to.

I will type up the changes I have made so far and each new one as I go.

I have started drinking more water. As a matter of fact it is almost all I drink. My 8 glasses a day and then some.

My Favorite books at the moment are The Red Tent, The DaVinci Code and The Vampire Diaries.

I love all kinds of movies. I really like Nightmare Before Christmas and other kids movies. Just seen Coraline recently as well. It was really cute.

I like to write poetry and have 3 poems in publication now.

Welcome to Smart Carbing!! We are really happy that you joined us. We are a very friendly group and have many successful and knowledgeable members. Our members are on all kinds of plans such as Atkins, South Beach, Protein Power, Low Glycemic. etc. What we share in common is a desire to eat high quality carbs and leave behind the processed sugary ones that cause medical problems and obesity.
