Hi!
I live in Reno, NV and am a cancer survivor. I'm presently engaged in my 5th battle with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer and I'm doing well. The cancer was last shown to be shrinking and I'm nearly finished with chemo - my final treatment is set for September 23, 2011.
Last summer, before my 4th bout with recurrent breast cancer hit, I wore a size 5/6. I'm now fighting my 5th recurrence of breast cancer and I'm wearing a size 14. That was a hard pill to swallow but I've learned that many breast cancer patients end up gaining weight while they are in treatment. The oncologist is always pleased when I've put on a pound or two but I always wince. . . .
I'm also going back to school this fall - starting my freshman year at a local community college. My major is Journalism. I'm so looking forward to going back to school - I've been away from it for a year now (because of cancer). I'm determined to beat cancer - no matter what so I take good care of myself and continue to exercise (even if it's only walking) 4 -5 days a week. This fall I'll be taking a step aerobics class at school alone with a beginning ballet class (I'm interested in building muscle) to help me with my sense of balance (chemo has robbed me of that, too) but my sport of choice is and always has been running. I can't wait to get back to that, either.
This semester I'll be keeping a close log of my diet (I'm diabetic), exercise, and how that all affects my moods and energy levels. Chemotherapy takes a tremendous toll on the human body and I want to get my body back into the best shape possible.
I'm running in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure this year (I do every year) and I would encourage everyone who stops by my page to support that cause in any way they can this year.
I wish all the best to all my readers this year. Don't lose heart! If I can do what I do with the attitude I have - you all can do anything, too!
