The youngest of those blessings!

I'm a 54 year old diabetic, married, with a terrible case of "empty nest syndrome", who needs to get healthy. I have 140 pounds to lose and I need your support. This is such a great community and I am looking forward to "taking it off" with you!!
My goals are to get to a point in life where I feel healthy and can be as active as I want to be. I would like to lose about 140 lbs, but I will be extremely happy if I can lose 100!! And I want to be free of back pain and every pain that goes along with being morbidly obese.
I am a diabetic, so I am trying to follow the guidelines of a diabetic diet. I am eating a low-fat, reduced-carb diet with lots of fiber. I am trying to get cardio exercise at least 3 times a week to start. I also need to start some resistance exercise at least twice a week.
I am married to Duane and have three daughters and one stepson. I live in Port Angeles, WA which is about 2.5 hrs. west of Seattle on the Olympic Peninsula. I have my own bookkeeping and tax firm, and my husband has his own CPA firm. I have been overweight most of my life, having yo-yo dieted several times. I like to do beading, read, play games, spend time with family and friends. I am in the process of finding new things that I like to do.
I have degenerative disc disease, and have had two disc removal surgeries. I have to be very careful with what I do for exercise to start with. I am walking three times a week to start, working up to five times a week. But it is slow going.

Yes, Julie, I'm reading "A New Earth", as well. I'm enjoying it thus far, and I, too, have had a couple of moments of enlightenment.
I know you will start learning more and more about yourself with each passing day... I hope you will try new things, and pamper yourself a little (in between getting people's taxes done for them).
Thank you so much for your comments about my writing... I love to write, it seems to be the best way for me to communicate my feelings.
I live in La Center, WA, about 25 miles north of Portland, OR, so I'm not too far away.
My daughter and I had big plans last summer to hitch a ride over to Victoria, but she didn't have the proper I.D. So, we just bounced around all over WA sleeping in the back of our van.
We had purchased a portable DVD player, so we just watched chick-flicks and drove like the wind. It was so much fun and it was a cheap vacation...
Okay, well, I'll talk to you soon my friend. Please, call on me for support whenever you need it.

P.S. There is a picture in my gallery of me blowing a kiss... that was taken at Fort Worden, so see, one never knows when we could bump into each other for REAL!

Hi Julie, thanks so much for adding me as a friend. I'm so excited... I'll sure try to be a good one.
I understand very, very, well what you're going through with the empty nest thing... in fact... I blogged about it several months ago... it's called "Chicken, or the Egg?" if I remember right! Check it out if you get the chance.
Your daughters are absolutely beautiful... I'm sure they get it from you.
Love and Hugs,
