50 is MY new beginning

Now that I'm 50, it's time to get back in the game and become healthier.

I am struck by these threads as I look at other people's stories and progress here on SparkPeople. Here's what I see:

* Many people have accomplished their goals. This works!

* They say it's through taking things one step at a time, one day at a time.

* Each one ...

I am struck by these threads as I look at other people's stories and progress here on SparkPeople. Here's what I see:

* Many people have accomplished their goals. This works!

* They say it's through taking things one step at a time, one day at a time.

* Each one demonstrates the qualities of patience, hard work, and willingness to stay committed to their highest good and health.

* Everyone here started. They began. They took action. And then they watched what happened.

* When people reach their goals, they keep up the same habits they developed along the way - such as checking in on SparkPeople and sharing their lessons and progress with others

I'm inspired by what to me is the "formula" for success in weight release: Having a goal, admitting that I need to do something different to get different results, making a decision to take actions that can get me to my goal, taking the action, consistently acting every day, and taking the long view.

Patience, perseverance and perspective are keys to success!

Sorry I've taken so long to get back to you. The site is nosdiet.com. There is a forum there, too, with lots of experienced members who can hand-hold newbies through the process, which takes longer than most people want, but that is true of most eating habit changes. That "21 days to develop a new habit" is one of the most misleading pronouncements, even on No S. Statistically, looking at weight loss data, it takes 2-5 years to implement eating changes. This allows for slipups and refining the details. But that doesn't mean it's a daily challenge the whole time. There are lots of good, joyful days in there, too! emoticon

Not to ruin your resolve, but I have had good results, losing every year (i.e., not all at once) for the last three years (started at age 56 and after menopause), using a lifestyle plan that doesn't use tracking calories. I know that is heresy here, but it has returned the joy of eating and a peaceful control of food to my life after decades of problems- mostly bingeing- and gain. I did learn from some of the programs I used before, including WW, but I promised myself I would use nothing that wouldn't work even if I was traveling in a 3rd world country, which I have done and will do again. (In fact, I was the slimmest of my adult life when I was traveling.) The program, like Spark, is free on the net, and much less low key. The founder just put his ideas up after he had used the system for four years with good success and he rarely gets involved now, unless necessary. His site has been ongoing since 2004 with many long termers to help newbies get over the humps. He has other things to do in life than sell weight loss. In fact, he says his plan is too sane to really sell. How can you sell moderation and simplicity? He does recommend tracking yes/no, failure/success of compliance with the simple rules on a daily basis, and he has a free section to do that for eating or anything else.
