It's hard to listen with your heart when your mouth is open.
Just going with the flow.......
I woke up one morning and realized that I am extremely overweight and I don't want to be this way any more. Today is a good day to work towards health and a trimmer body.
Since that morning 12 months ago my life has really changed. I have learned so much about my character and who I am at the core of all of this excess weight.
Today I have made a promise to "ME." But first things first.
First, I need to reassure the "ME" who has been kept safe from life with all of this excess weight, I promise to you that as I lose this weight you will still be kept safe and secure. All of this weight is no longer needed. "TRUST ME!" on that one.
I also need to apologize to the "ME" that has been forced to sit on the sidelines just watching life go by. Horribly grieving all of past days when my body could just jump up and run across the yard or the times when kneeling down was as easy as breathing. My promise to you is that I will beginning moving and allowing you to express yourself through walking, running, jogging, and even dancing if you would like.
My final promise is to "ME", who I have become today. I promise to use all of the knowledge I have compiled to take responsibility of, and control over my life. I promise myself that I will take my life seriously by laughing and playing more often, turning work into play and joy, and greeting each new day and each new face as a blessing to be treasured for ever.
In other words, I promise to see my life as a work of art in continual progress with my focus on the process. Hang on, "ME" because this is going to be one fun and wild ride.
The lessons I want to keep in mind and build upon are:
1) I am worth the effort
2) No one but me can make the necessary changes
3) Life is an adventure waiting to happen
4) I enjoy walking again
5) When I have setbacks, no big deal, learn and move on
6) The more I move the more I want to move
7) There are caring and supportive people at SP
8) I am not on a diet, but am on an adventurous journey learning how to be healthy and fit
9) Positive and motivating attitudes are contagious...go out and pass it along to others, SPREAD THE SPARK and
10) I AM WORTH THE EFFORT IT TAKES TO BECOME HEALTHY AND FIT!
My best to all of you on your journey. Please take the time to enjoy the process of your journey as well. Be well and healthy!

I am from the beautiful state of Iowa. Although I am not privy to the wonderful farm land I am proudly raising a bountiful patio garden.
I have been struggling with health issues so I am hoping that developing a healthy way of living (eating and exercise) will help me to begin to feel better. I have 100 pounds to lose and I know that will help as the pounds begin to melt away.
This past year I did not lose the weight I intended but I learned a lot about myself and my lifestyle. I have made progress and personal growth and am ready to take this challenge seriously. I can do this!
I have also changed direction with my studies in achieving my masters in mental health counseling. My new classes start in September and I am excited about this new change. I have worked for the past 30 years as a counselor/advocate for victims of crime and child abuse. I am currently employed part-time teaching mental health skills to children and their parents.
I love books! I love to read books, and I collect cook books.
My personal information could never be complete unless I mention my 4-legged companion, Gabe. He has no idea that he is a dog, so please don't mention this if you happen to come across us. He is part black-lab and Chow, gentle, loves cats and children, and has a loving heart as big as he is. He is also over 11 years old and unashamedly passes gas whenever the need arises and snores. His personality more than makes up for those few annoyances, however.
Walking in nature is a great source of serenity for me. I love being by water (stream, river, lake, ocean) and walking in the woods.
