I keep on tryin'.....

found i was type 2 diabetic in April of 07, now, beginning of May 08 have managed to loose 25 pounds, however i still have another 35+ to go, including the problem tummy area..... always looking for new ways to keep motivated to keep my diet how it should be including lower carb recipes and the real test, keeping up the exercise.... sparks is helping and thanks......

Sorry to read of your pinched nerve. I had to go through a pinched nerve in my upper back/neck TWICE last year and it was no fun. Chiropractic didn't help at all. I ended up going to a physical therapist and that finally helped, but it took sooo long. I can really sympathize with the pain and frustration. Big HUGGLES to you and hope they get you fixed up soon.

Sorry - for the vitamin survey on the question that asked "How many Vitamins are in the B group?" the correct answer is EIGHT.
B7 (Biotin) aka Vitamin H! – MAYA pointed this out to me – and YES, I did have it listed!

Thanks for participating in the Vitamin Survey. Below are the correct answers. The ones with an * are those that you missed.

* Vitamin _D_ is known as “the sunshine vitamin”.

* _Folic Acid (B9), Thiamine (B1) and Ascorbic Acid (C) _ are vitamins.
_Potassium and Zinc_ are minerals, not vitamins.

* There are _7_ “B” vitamins:
B1 – (Thiamine) B2 – (Riboflavin) B3 – (Niacin) B5 – (Pentothenic Acid) B6 – (Pyridoxine, pyridoxal phosphate) B-9 – (Folic Acid) B12 – (Cyanocobalamin)

Vitamin _K (Phytonadione)_ sole purpose is to clot blood.

* Fat soluble vitamins stay in your body for _up to 6 months_.

* The human body can make _Vitamin D (specifically, D3 aka cholecalciferol) _.
CALCIUM is not a vitamin – it is a mineral.

The body cannot absorb _iron_ without Vitamin C.

Simple carbs are mostly sugars which burn quickly. True
Complex carbs help to keep your blood sugars level resulting in longer lasting energy. True
* Fresh fruits are __simple__ carbohydrates.
Fresh vegetables are __complex__ carbohydrates.
You should limit your "sugars" to _10__ % of your total calories.
Refining (seen on your nutrition label as "refined wheat" or "enriched") normally removes the bran and the germ, leaving only the endosperm.
Without the bran and germ, about 25% of a grain’s protein is lost, along with at least seventeen key nutrients.
A "1 ounce serving" of grains is: 1/2 cup cooked rice, bulgur or pasta 1/2 cup dry oats 1 ounce dry pasta, rice or other dry grain 1 slice bread 1 small muffin (weighing one ounce) 1 cup ready-to-eat cereal flakes
A minimum of _3_ servings of whole grains is recommended for a "healthy diet" (for everyone over 9 years of age).

There is so many resources’ here at Spark People that you can learn about your health. I have learned so much by just reading the article. This is a learning process, we have to train ourselves new ways of feeding our bodies the right nutrients, etc.

About me I joined Spark People last April and so far I have lost a little over 40 pounds. I live in Villa Rica, Georgia with my DH and four boys.
