One pound a week is all it will take...

"This *will* be the year I get to my goal weight. Enough with the false starts. If I lose one pound a week throughout 2009, I'll be at my target weight, and I *know* I can do it."

That's what I wrote early on in 2009, and clearly I had some motivation issues, because by the second half of the year I'd stopped thinking about my health at all.

However, in late December of 2009 a close friend's father passed away. He was not very old and had no indications of poor health, ...

That's what I wrote early on in 2009, and clearly I had some motivation issues, because by the second half of the year I'd stopped thinking about my health at all.

However, in late December of 2009 a close friend's father passed away. He was not very old and had no indications of poor health, yet he had a massive heart attack and died in the middle of the night.

It made me think about the history of heart disease and cancer in my family, and how poorly I've been taking care of this body of mine for the past 33 years.

Since then, I've undergone a dramatic lifestyle overhaul. I'm eating naturally occurring foods only (no more processed foods for this chica!), no dairy, minimal gluten, and am working out three times a week on a small elliptical machine I have in my living room. I've also stopped drinking (for the most part).

I've never felt better!

My focus now is on being healthy - not on losing weight. But living a healthier lifestyle is resulting in weight loss, and I can't say I mind that at all. :0)

My Goals:
STAY HEALTHY. Eat only what my body needs in order to function at optimal levels. Work out to stay energized and feeling good about myself. FOCUS ON FEELING GOOD, NOT ON LOSING WEIGHT.

My Program:
Cardio 3x a week with light strength training. Eat naturally occurring foods only, no dairy, very little gluten. Use meal tracker to ensure am meeting nutrition goals.

Personal Information:
Originally from Boston. Moved to LA for a few years, now am living in Portland, OR. I love it here!

Other Information:
Cutting out dairy was the most amazing thing I've ever done for myself. I went two weeks without it, then when I tried it again I realized how awful it made me feel. My mood and energy level were dramatically reduced simply by consuming one serving of cheese. I have so much more energy now that I'm dairy-free!!

I'm familiar with that wagon :P I'm trying to commit to doing the 30 day shred every day plus getting outside into this gorgeous weather to do something active. How about you, what's your preferred work out method?
