This is so important for everyone to read and know!

Why you Gain Weight when you START to Excercise:

When someone starts a new exercise program, they often experience muscle soreness. The more intense and "unfamiliar" the program, the more intense the muscle soreness. This soreness is most prevalent 24 to 48 hours after each workout. In the first few weeks of a new program, soreness is the body trying to "protect and defend" the effected or targeted tissue.

This type of soreness is thought to be caused by tissue breakdown or microscopic tears in muscle tissue. When this happens the body protects the tissue. The muscle becomes inflamed and slightly swollen with fluid retention.

This temporary retention of fluid can result in a 3- to 4-pound weight gain within a few weeks of a new program.

Keep in mind that muscle soreness is not necessarily a reflection of how hard you worked. In fact, some people feel no signs of muscle soreness, yet will experience the muscle protection mechanisms of water retention and slight swelling.

Most people are motivated enough to put up with this temporary muscle soreness. Yet, many, especially those who really need immediate weight loss to keep them motivated in those first couple of weeks become discouraged and quit!

I'm just trying to be healthy. I had reached my goal and then "maintenance" didn't work out so well. So I'm back to tracking and losing weight and trying to find a good balance.

My Goals:
I want to increase my stamina. I want to increase my muscles and tone them.

I want to decrease my weight until I am around 150lbs. As I am 6 ft tall, this is slimmer and healthier than it sounds.

My Program:
In the morning I use the Wii Fit for about 20 minutes.

I walk at break times at work if the weather cooperates.

April 2012 to June 2012 I am taking a 1 hour Belly Dance class and a 1 hour Zumba class.

And I use Wii Fit in the evenings if I am bored.

Personal Information:
I live in Winnipeg, MB with boyfriend and our cat (really she's his cat, she just has accepted that I'm there and will snuggle with me if her first option, ie him, is not available)

Other Information:
Live long and prosper!

I wanted to check and see how Venus is doing. Emily is doing well so far…she wakes us up meowing in our faces in the morning to give her canned food…she's all about the canned food now.

I am so sorry that Venus has the tumor. It's a pain not being able to talk to a cat and see what THEY want to do about their condition. I wish they could make their own decision.

Anyway, take care!

Thanks for your comment on my blog! I'm a runner training for a half marathon this summer, and am not sure what types of group classes would be beneficial to my training. Do you have any ideas? This is a totally new realm of workouts for me, so I am quite unfamiliar with just about all of it! :)
