This is an attempt at helping me keep myself motivated to make changes to the way I eat daily. I joined SparkPeople April 13, 2008 and am amazed at the changes that I have already made. I love the way we are guided into making small daily changes that become habit and effort-free. I have begun eating foods that I buy primarily from my local farmers market and making foods from scratch. I do rely on my grocery store for items such as cereal (love my steel-cut oats!) and other grains, beans, ...

I have begun eating foods that I buy primarily from my local farmers market and making foods from scratch. I do rely on my grocery store for items such as cereal (love my steel-cut oats!) and other grains, beans, and dairy products. But I live in Hawaii and it is important to me to rely, as much as possible, on local foods. Gotta do what I can to reduce my carbon footprint. Living ~ 3000 miles away from other sources quickly consumes energy to transport it here!
Well it is August 1 and I have lost 21 pounds since I joined SP! I have gained muscle as well. I started back to exercise with the Bikini bootcamp challenge - 7- 12 minute videos plus 30 minutes of cardio. I found out about the challenge 1/2 way through. I decided to do the entire challenge for the month of June which I accomplished. I also did a turbojam challenge where I had to stay within my carb range which I also did! My mantra for June was "Just show up" - and that got me back to 24 hour fitness where I began taking cardio classes.
Then in July I did Jillian Michaels 30 day shred dvd - and I did 30 days. I lost 5.5 lbs in June and 6.6 lbs for July.
I thought I would post my results for the 30 day shred:

waist: 29.5 to 27.5
hips: 40 to 39
neck: 13 to 12.75
bust: 36.5 to 35
My mantra for August is "Get ripped" and I am doing Jari Love's dvd's - the Slim and lean and the Ripped to the Core for my strength training and I am also going to do Get Ripped 1000. I am also going to begin commuting by bike again.

I have done S&L and RTTC and I really like both of them, but for now I prefer RTTC. I have yet to do 1000 as I have been doing a cardio/strength step class at my gym 3 days a week for the first two weeks of Augsut. After that I will do 2 classes at the gym and 1000/week (my favorite instructor is subbing for 2 weeks which is why I can take this class 3 days/week for only 2 weeks)
I did RTTC 3 days a week for the month of August. I really bumped up my calories burned in August - 5,000 calories some weeks, 1500 calories burned a day at times. But I found I wasn't losing weight. I think I didn't balance the cal in with the cal burned, despite upping the calories I ate. So I have decided to keep it closer to 4,000 cal burned/week and stick to my cal range given to me by SP (instead of having to adjust it on days when I burn 1500 calories). I also am watching my HR and am trying to keep it closer to 137 for my max. Once I started doing this I started losing weight again. But August is my lowest weight loss month since April.
For September I am going to add Cathe Friedrich dvds to my workout. I will start with her cardio and then add in her strength -but that will have to wait until her STS dvds come out. I am really excited about these!! 137.5 lbs is my weight at the beginning of Sept.
Here is 2009 and I am in the 120's finally. I am down to 126.8 (I feel like a little kid when asked how old I am, 5 1/2 years old, when do we stop doing that?)
I have stopped doing Jari Love Dvds and am now a Cathe Freidrich fan. STS has come out and should arrive next week. I can't wait to start. I'll be back later to let you know how I am doing with it!
I have done STS mesocycle 1, 2x now - and am just about to start my rest week from ST. I am looking forward to mesocycle 2! I love STS, it is an amazing program! It is so easy to keep motivated when every day I have a new workout to do - I am doing Cathe's cardio suggestions when I have her dvds (and I have most of the ones she has recommended now) and I substitute in one of her other dvds if I don't have it.
I gained weight in Jan - May and am trying to take it back off now. I got sick in December and still haven't recovered from it. I have never had anything linger this long! I am just so busy that I haven't had time to go back to the doctors! I am hoping to do that soon though. I can really see a difference in my total calories burned between routines I am doing in 2009 vs what I had in 2008, and I think part of that is due to not getting over this illness - my calories burned are significantly higher in 2009. I think this is due to congestion and not being able to breath as well.
I bought the bodybugg in November and have really loved having it. I have an incredible disparity between calories burned due to BB vs. HRM though - very interesting. Still trying to work that out.
I had slipped in my eating and workout routines in 2009, but am finally getting back into a routine with working out (thanks STS!) and eating well.

My goal is to change the way I eat. I eat sweets as a way of coping with stress, depression, disappointment, comfort. I don't want to rely on food for my comfort. Also, I used to work out 6 days a week and ride my bike daily and I want to get back to daily exercise as a way of life.
I have adapted to at least 8 glasses of water a day and to trying to eat local food as much as possible. I am a vegetarian and am trying to monitor my protein and calcium intake. I need to work on how I incorporate protein into my daily intake of food.
