Welcome, JillChristine4! You made the right decision to join SparkPeople and just in time to blast off with the New Year! There is a wealth of information and support here to get you going and to stay on track. Keep in mind that this is not a "diet" but a change of lifestyle.
I would like to suggest that you jump right in and start tracking your nutrition and fitness exercise. Try to plan your meals ahead of time. There are pre-made meal plans on the site. Or, if you're like me, create your own meals and track accordingly. If exercise has not been a part of your life, begin walking for at least 10 minutes 5 days a week. Then slowly build up time.
Secondly, I would suggest that you join a team or two for group support and a sharing of ideas, etc. Choose a team that best suits your interest. The teams have challenges to get you motivated and keep you on the right path to success. Above all, ask questions and let us know how you are doing.
