Greetings from Florida

Hello and welcome to my page. I am over 60 and overweight. In late 2009, I was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer and became critically ill from infections during my chemo treatments which destroy the immune system. I spent most of six months either in hospital or rehab since I became so ill I could not walk. Since then I have been

Since then I have been
trying to regain my strength. The ironic thing is that I lost my appetite while I was in the hospital and the doctors prescribed medications to make me eat. It worked so well that even after I was home, I continued to eat until I was more than 60 pounds overweight. Lost 25, regained 18. Now I am determined to get my weight under control with the help of my Spark friends. I am responsible for everything that goes into my mouth; I am responsible for getting exercise and building my strength. No one else can do it for me!

Jess, are you okay? I'm worried about you because you suddenly stopped posting on the BC support team and you had been such a regular there. I hope things are still going smoothly for you.

Hugs,
Kay

Thanks for checking out the blog. I does feel good to be getting back to normal but I keep having to remind myself to take care of that new hip!

Jess, I had to laugh at your comment about the Vicki Lawrence wig. I actually have a third wig that came from ACS that is just like that! They must give out a lot of those.

I played around with it this morning. It actually looked a bit better after I tamed it a bit with a hair pick. I'm not sure I'll wear it because of the coloring. It's a grey that seems to look odd on me, at least for now.

I need to pull out my scarfs and play with them. I've been watching some good you-tube videos on tying scarves specifically geared for chemo ladies and also so make up videos also geared toward the "hairless".

It's rainy here today and Jim's still out of town, so this keeps me occupied.

Thank you for the flowers goodie Jess! They were nice to see when I got home. We're expecting a snowstorm tonight so I'm glad to be home safe and warm. I'm glad this is over and not a dream!

Even though it turns out my high cholesterol is apparently chemo induced, I'm thinking about asking my MO if I can take a statin while on AC in Dec. and Jan. There is some evidence that it can protect my heart while I'm on that chemo.
