My old mantra (getting skinny is more fun than getting fat) was getting stale, even though it is still true. I have begun to suspect that I have an eating disorder (binge eating) and that my focus on sugar, while noble and not wrong, may be missing the mark. If I can really not eat unless hungry (with some exceptions, of course), and if I can be reminded of this every time I open my spark page, I think I will see more success than I have over the last two years as I have watched my weight creep up a little.

I have been a proud and happy member of SparkPeople for 8 years. It is an extremely important part of my life. I feel like I am the ultimate work in progress. After an initial loss of 40 lbs. in 6 months, I have struggled. My struggles have included gaining back some of the weight and just bouncing around at a certain level. I think things are finally moving in the right direction again.

I have been plagued by the sugar monster. I have made quite a few false starts in my efforts to control my sugar consumption. However, I have read many books and watched many videos about the dangerous effects of sugar, and they are finally beginning to sink in.

Another goal I have for 2016 is to become a better role model for my fellow sparkers. I hope you get some inspiration from my page.

Personal Information:
I have lived in Northern NJ for most of my life. I have two great kids, a 30 year old daughter (attorney and aspiring tri-athlete) and a 27 year old son who is an assistant basketball coach at a junior college. I have also been married to the same guy for 38 years.

Other Information:
For most of my life I was not much of a reader. At some point I started listening to audiobooks and loved them. I especially liked Michael Connelly and Sue Grafton. But recently I haven't done it so much, partly because I currently have a relatively short commute.

I work as a technical writer in the pharmaceutical industry. It is contract work, so I am not sure how long my current job will last.

First - I love your 2016 Resolution! I am going to do my best for the rest of 2017.

Ok, I'm really glad you visited me today. While your Mother is in rehab, have them watch her walk barefoot! I learned here in the house that Ray's right foot always has the toes up. This must have been going on 'forever' and explains why he always falls backwards. It's common but rarely diagnosed. It could be a reason for your mother falling.

Long story short - they are compensating for the fear of falling forward and it throws off the balance and when they stop, reverse or turn around - they fall.

Now I am forever telling Ray, "all 10 toes to the floor!" and it seems to be helping. He fell twice in the last 2 weeks but one time his knee gave way and the other he was reaching for something and fell.

If you can figure where she is falling, you might be able to figure why and stop it. My dad fell getting out of the shower so I had him show me and we were able to correct his behavior. I also put down those foam bricks so if he fell, it was cushioned.

The best we can do is to compare notes and try to help each other. We learn together this way.

    Love you & Huggers,

Leslie, it was a crazy week! Let's both hope for a quieter week coming up. Thanks for my cupcake (that's the kind I like, virtual...that I can have!). Keeping you and your Mom in my prayers. Time to take it easy now.
