My name is Jennifer. I lost 60 pounds when I first joined SparkPeople, but I found that it was increasingly painful to exercise and gained the weight back. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, and arthritis, so now I know why I hurt so much.
I was 406 pounds when I was diagnosed. My extreme weight coupled with my health problems necessitated gastric sleeve surgery, as my doctor told me I'd be in a wheelchair if I didn't lose weight.
I had the surgery in August 2014, and a year later I had lost 110 pounds. I haven't been under 300 pounds since junior high. I'm now restarting SparkPeople, as losing weight after gastric surgery isn't as easy as television shows make it out to be. Exercise is just as important, as is eating right. Even though I now don't eat a lot of food by necessity since my stomach is so small that I'm told it can only hold up to 16 ounces at most, it's still incredibly easy to eat enough that I maintain my weight rather than lose it.
While I'm not at a weight that puts me in danger of losing my ability to walk, I'm still at a very unhealthy weight, and still have over 100 pounds to lose. I'm determined to get those pounds off though, once and for all!

to walk every day, watch my food intake, and drink at least 6 cups of water a day.
I live in upstate New York. I'm lucky in that there are several beautiful walking areas near where I live, so it's actually enjoyable to walk to lose weight.

I lived in upstate NY for my first 14 years and sometimes go back for the family reunion when we have enough money saved up for the gas!
Went you get discouraged jump on the message boards and the members will really pick you up.
The food and nutrition tracker is really good it helped me re-educate me and learn about making new food choices.

Welcome to our 'New Challenge' Jennifer and Congratulations on taking that first step of joining spark as well as making the commitment to a healthy lifestyle.
It will be a hard a rewarding journey but it can be done. You will find some amazing real life stories on Spark that I'm sure you can relate to and I hope that you are able to use them as motivation.
