a mirror will lie, a picture won't. i realized this, when after everyday of looking in the mirror, i didn't see my life spiraling out of control. to me, i looked slim. i didn't get in pictures much, but when i did, i hated what i saw. then one day i went to the hospital to welcome my new nephew into the world. of course, my sister and i had pictures taken with the new little bundle. when i saw those pictures i knew i needed to do something. that was february 14th, 2011. i joined sparkpeople ...

Wow it was awesome to read your story you sound like me to a tea!! I had my first baby one year ago. I joined spark ppl last summer a few months after he was born but really didn't take it seriously!! Boy do I wish I had cause now I've actually gained a few more pounds!! : ( I just had my rude awakening January 18th when I was watching the home video of my little boys birthday party I had filmed that afternoon!!! I almost died when I saw how BIG I still am!! I am now determined to start loosing weight for real! I have been doing the kinect dance central and Fighters Uncaged game every day for an hour for the last two weeks and am really starting to see the difference Thank God!!! HAHA

You were SO right about the nutritional information being available! All I had to do was Google the restaurant name and "Nutrition facts menu" and I got a full pdf list of calorie, protein, fat, and sodium breakouts for everything on the menu.

Hi Jenn! Thanks for your comments on my post! It is really encouraging to hear about other peoples success, it makes me feel like I can do it too. I would love to hear your strategy for success if you have the time?
Sounds like I am in the same boat you were before you started. I was thin when I was younger, and even when I look at myself in the mirror I don't think I look the way I know that I do. My picture with my boyfriend in front of the christmas tree (you can see it on my profile) is the one that shook me up. I totally get your fear of finger food as well! It's so easy to munch away, I find I do it in front of the TV mindlessly! Chips and salsa, pasta, bread and cheese... man!
Anyways, if you are looking for a weightless buddy, maybe I could help you out? Just give me an idea of your goals (for me its work out 3 times a week but try and do some activity (walk, stretch, yoga) once a day), eat healthy local food and stay below 1500 cal a day, lifestyle - get 8 hours of sleep a night, don't press the sleep button on my alarm and don't eat in front of the tv) and weaknesses (for me, chips, fast food, any starch really! French Fries are my biggy and I am a big sauce girl....)
