I was thin and in great shape as a kid and young adult, and for a lot of my adult life I've weighed around 125-130 (where my doctor says I should be currently – I’m 5’4”). Over the past 10+ years I've let my weight creep up to 214. During this time I've gone through several stints of dieting & exercising and have lost an average of 20-30 pounds each time, but I always gain the weight back once I start eating any of the foods I love – pizza, pasta, cereal. My Endocrinologist (I’m hypothyroid) says in order for me to lose weight and keep it off I need to stay away from all carbs, except for the ones from veggies. I know this makes the weight fall off, as it has before, but it’s so hard to maintain and I never reach my goal of 130. Losing weight doesn’t seem to be hard for me when I put in the effort, it’s maintaining any loss that’s hard. Am I never to have any of the foods I love again? Because it seems if I give myself an inch (a slice or two of pizza every once in a while), I take a mile and just continue eating the stuff I love…thereby gaining the weight back. How do I add some carbs back into my diet without craving more? Anyway, here I go again! Maybe this time I'll find a balance that works for me.
