Life has many twists and turns. I am starting to learn that all experiences are beneficial, though not all are pleasant or happy. Is there something after all, to the Chinese philosophy of everything in balance? I am not convinced yet.
Perhaps rather, that God makes all things work for the good, for those in Christ Jesus. Perhaps the Chinese are not quite with the God-theory yet...
I have started my second run of SparkPeople on the 7th of May, 2009. The first run ran into the ground in 2007. End of 2007. This time I am in it for the long haul.
I very strongly dislike failing, especially at something as easy as making SP work. But I know that bumps and wobbles will be part of it. So I have to calm my mind, re-group my thinking all the time, and get back on track when I get off...because I AM IN THIS FOR THE LONG HAUL.
This is probably one of the most important projects I have ever tackled. In 51 years (ok, make that 51 minus 15) I have not yet succeeded to keep any amount of weight off for longer than 5 years!
I know that if I can beat myself at this, I would have grown in leaps and bounds, I would be a better, stronger and happier me!!
I have to learn much, so this project will consume quite a bit of energy...

Originally from South Africa, have lived on three continents, currently in Europe. Actually, at the moment in Brussels. I am a qualified teacher, beauty -and aromatherapist I work from home and LOVE IT!! Two kids aged 22 and 20, boy and girl. Husband, no pets, no smoking, and very little alcohol. Appreciate nature, time with friends and family, love learning new things (especially in my field of work) and have a positive outlook and attitude to life. THE GLASS FOR ME IS ALWAYS HALF FULL!

    Thanks for your comment about my video blog. Water skiing is fun...I learned how to ski on my honeymoon - 41 years ago! It's never too late to learn.

    I am actually learning as I go about how to do my sparkpage, so now I do check the comments on my blog welcome to write there!

    Hope that doctor's visit went well, and was less stressfull than anticipated!

    Brussels is gray today, but I can stay in shortsleeves, which is a consolation! We are hoping for a good summer this side, so far much better than the last two years, so we do hope it is going to last well into september!!

    Hi there - not sure if you check the comments on your blog, so I'm writing here.
    First - thank y0u so much for responding to my blog about being stuck in the mud. Your comment that "Each moment we live causes infinitesimal changes and we move ahead, not ever being the same as even yesterday!!" is profound! You've truly given me something to think about.

    And about that boyfriend! My mom's solution was to drive them off with kindness. The less she liked one, the more often she invited him to stay for dinner. She never, ever showed her dislike - basically just let them show their true colors and/or made me sick of them!

    As to your emotional eating - boy can I relate! I have actually been on SP, felt the "need" to eat and have done so. I don't keep "bad" food in the house but even 100 cal. granola bars, if eaten 5 at a time, is just too much. And as to your final question: As long as you always get back up, you are on your way. In time you'll find that the urge to binge will diminish. SP isn't a diet - it's a life style. You've just had an extra wobble along the road.

    Hi you -
    I hope you your weight loss journey is going well. How is it going in Brussels these days?
    I'm back from 3 days with my son, DIL and 3 grandsons (7, 4, 1.5) it was a blast. They rented a place at the ocean in NJ. We were a 3 minute walk from the Atlantic Ocean - very family friendly (in a "dry" county.; Absolutely no alcohol sold at all, none allowed in there were no roudy young adults. (you could have liquor in your own house, but you had to bring it in. no stores even sold it) Not that drinking is such a problem - but, especially in the summer, many summer resorts can be problematic with drunks.
    Strange that I made that issue with this e-mail....not my intent as I do drink. But being with the little ones, I appreciated that there weren't bars in the area.Well - besides that - here on Long Island in my back yard the raspberries are ripe, zucchini are abundant, cucumbers, and the early tomato's are almost ripe.

    Glad you're still with us on SP. I correspond with a couple of friends - haven't kept up with the teams. It takes up too much time. BUT - I'm slowly loosing weight and am very happy with my progress.

    Hi - I read your blog this morning (well, really this "middle of the night") from the I need sleep team...I can't believe you have not comments on your page - unless you've it set not to receive any?
    Where in Europe do you life?
    My assumption is that your visitors hope to tour the countryside (city?) where you live using and maybe even abusing (without meaning of course) YOU. Boy do I understand that. Years ago, when my DH and I lived in Mainz, Germany it seemed every month we had another guest visiting from home (New York State, USA) But that was when I was young and fit so I didn't have the food issues I have now.
    Stay strong and try to stick to your plan.
    It's nice to get to know you.
