I vow to eat better, sleep better, and feel better.
Fitness has been a low priority in my life for far too long. Before I came to SparkPeople, I was obese, had high blood pressure, and felt awful. With SparkPeople's help, I've made real progress!
I bought and read "The Spark" because I'd heard good things about SparkPeople's recipes. While the book didn't offer much new information, it brought a lot of concepts together quite brilliantly, and punctuated those concepts with inspiring case histories.
So I joined SparkPeople. I started walking every day and tracking my food intake. One week later: FIVE POUNDS LIGHTER! I kept walking and watching what I ate, and used a rowing machine when it was too wet to walk. Two weeks on SparkPeople: TEN POUNDS LIGHTER! I couldn't believe how much encouragement I got from other Sparkers! That support kept getting me out of a warm bed on cold mornings to walk. One month on SparkPeople: SEVENTEEN POUNDS LIGHTER! Life sometimes throws lemons--but with the help and support of my family and my SparkFriends, I made lemonade. After two months, I was down THIRTY POUNDS! I found great joy in "shopping in my own closet", where I found a bunch of new wardrobe choices. Three months and I was able to wave "buh-bye" to FORTY POUNDS! I've got just 10 more to go, and I believe that I can do it.
Most importantly, I've felt great! Yes, the reduced weight and improved appearance were wonderful--but the best part was the feeling of accomplishment.
I still have some pounds to lose, and many healthy years ahead in which to practice maintenance. Along the way, life's stresses will no doubt conspire to try and thwart me (or so it will seem). But I am excited by the progress so far, the new friends, and the increased energy. So I keep at it--with a smile on my face and a bounce in my step.
