June 13, 2012 - Oh dear...I have joined 5% Community Challenge and below are my statistics:

Current weight: 186

Goal weight: 154

5% loss: 186 x 0.05% = 9.3

I will do 30 minutes exercise each day for 6 days.

I will drink at least 8 glasses of water per day.

I will NOT eat anything after 8 pm.

I will be true to my commitment.

May 2, 2008 - I am a 76 year old recent widow. I have two daughters, two grandchildren. I am an avid reader, like to garden, like to cook and collect recipes. (Might be part of my weight problem, as I also like to try out the recipes I collect! ) I need to lose 50 pounds, am told I am an emotional-eater, and if I am good and behave myself, I should reach my goal on April 17, 2009. Seems a long way off , but time does go by so quickly.

It is now 10 months into this program of a healthier lifestyle, and I am down 35.5 pounds. It should be more at this stage, but I am content to go with what is. I hope to meet my goal, but am not too optismistic, although I am sure I will get close. We shall see. One thing I know for sure is that I have come such a long way in more ways than losing the weight. Many aspects of my life have changed, including my overall attitude. Thanks to the goodness of my Lord and the lovely people at Sparkpeople. Story to continue.

April 17, 2009

Today is the day that SP set for me to reach the 50 lb. loss goal. I did not make it, and have set my goal date up to my birthday, 23 July. I am very disappointed in myself that I did not stay focused and reach that desired goal. But, hey, I am trying! I have lost 36 lbs. so far and will keep trying until I make goal. That means I have 14 lbs to lose in 13 weeks. It can be done, so will try to stay focused. That will mean it will have taken me 14 months instead of the one year to get where I want to be. Some of us don't do as well as others, but this is not a competition with one another, but with ourselves.

May 18 ~~It is now 1 year, 2 weeks and 2 days since I became a member of this awesome site. I am a much healthier person and have much more knowledge of how to stay that way than I did all those months and days ago. Today I weighed in at 162 ~ a 42 lb. loss. It was not even a possibility in my mind when I began that I could ever get to that weight! I am a believer!

September 7, 2009 - It is now later! I am not proud of the lack of progress since last I wrote here. But with a little push from fate, I am moving in a new direction. The journey had grown boring and tedious, and my heart was not in it. But due to an unexpected criticism, I realized that I needed to make a move in another direction where my efforts would work for ME! So this day in my life of losing weight will set me on a new path to success and I WILL succeed. I only have 4 pounds to meet my goal weight, and I am going to do it!

September 28, 2009 - SUCCESS! AT LAST- TODAY I MADE MY GOAL WITH 1/2 LB TO SPARE! 153.5 lbs. What a journey! Now comes the most difficult part - maintaining what I have accomplished. I can do it! Thank you Sparkpeople.

October 5, 2009 - One week into maintaining and still at 153.5 - Good start to a new chapter in my weight loss journey.

February 26, 2010 - Goodness, it doesn't seem that long ago that I updated this! During the lapse, the holidays happened! Oops!

I regained 5 lbs. and gosh! was it hard to lose AGAIN! So now, I'm back to goal and have no time or inclination to do that AGAIN...it is just a matter of taking back control and getting back to basics. When I began this journey, I was so aware of what I ate and did some cool things to lose the weight. For example, I used nice crisp lettuce, usuallly romaine, to make a wrap for my sandwich fillings. I learned to love it and not miss the bread. I ate lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and tried new methods for cooking them.

So this will be a new journey, but an extension of the old one as well.
I hope you will join me for the next chapter!

July 4, 2010 - Oh this chapter is not pretty!! I have regained 15 lbs and am desperate to lose it. I joined the Stress Busting Challenge tonight and hope it will be the answer. I want to get this weight back off by the date of my first goal...September 28. I know that I can do it...I have already proved that. Why I do this to myself is a question I wish someone would answer for me. So stay with me for updates...

July 23, 2010 - Gee, the update isn't pretty either. I have just been shuffling the same 2-3 lbs back and forth. I have not had the incentive nor the encouragement to do better. I know that if it is to be, it's up to me. Seems at our age, most of us feel so deprived and have no desire to treat ourselves with love and respect. As I begin my 79th year today, I will give myself the gift of self caring and begin this journey again. If you come to read this, leave me a note of encouragement and/or chastisement.

On another note, I continue to enjoy my blessed DGGD as she grows and learns. In the words of Arnold Schwartzeneger, "I'll be back..."

To meet my goal weight and to improve on my exercise. I really want to do this so badly.

I am exercising every day and walking for 30 minutes each day. I no longer go to the kitchen after dinner. And I am aware of my portion size. I am eating healthier, and loving every minute of it. .
