I discovered SparkPeople over 4 years ago when I attempted to lose a few stubborn pounds. I started eating healthier and exercising regularly. This led to more confidence in my body (I've been called ugly all my life, so this was huge). I decided to try a photo shoot, something I would have never done before. I ended up loving modeling and pursued this passion. Modeling to me was not about vanity (as many seem to think) but rather showing people that people can still be beautiful and can ...
Modeling to me was not about vanity (as many seem to think) but rather showing people that people can still be beautiful and can model whether they meet the "typical" standards of modeling (ex. being tall and thin, having 36-24-36 measurements, etc.). It felt powerful showing the world that I could be beautiful even when I'm only 5'5", have a big rear end, and rather flat-chested. Unfortunately I still have issues believing that I am a worthwhile person and that I can be considered attractive. Many people don't understand this and think I am just fishing for compliments. Those who have had similar experiences know how hard it is to accept and love ourselves after many years of negative "brain-washing".

After reaching my goal weight and one of my goals in life, I thought I didn't need SP in my life. In March 2010, I started experiencing daily migraines and muscle stiffness/spasms. My doctor explained how certain foods (such as hot dogs and other processed meats) can trigger migraines. She advised me to keep a food journal to identify possible triggers. This led to my return to SparkPeople. I didn't come back to lose weight, but rather to record my food intake. The unexpected result was the loss of over 25 pounds. I am now back at my goal weight and feel very comfortable at this weight. My return to SP also helped me eat a healthier diet once again. Still the doctors cannot tell me why I have daily migraines, but I am doing somewhat better with the use of muscle relaxers and physical therapy for my neck and shoulders. I am now ready to try fitting exercise back into my life, though somewhat hesitant because of my muscle problems. I am getting healthier every day! I can't help but want to share this healthy lifestyle with others I care about so they can become healthier and happier themselves.

I am currently a full-time graduate student pursuing my Master's degree in Early Childhood Special Education. I currently have two jobs: I am a Graduate Assistant at the campus child care center and I am an Assistant Program Manager at an after-school program. I am starting my thesis this semester, and am a little intimidated by the thought. I also enjoy traveling, attending concerts, watching wrestling (yes you read that correctly..haha), reading, dancing, and baking. I absolutely love making tasty treats for my friends and family! I've learned through hard times that my family is always there for me, and for that I am very thankful!

My Goals:
*Get over my sugar and caffeine addictions
*Unlearn emotional eating
*Improve my diet by increasing intake of protein, fruits, vegetables, and other healthy foods
*Reduce stress (completed Stress-Busting Challenge)
*Incorporate fitness into my everyday life, and enjoy it! (currently in the 28-day Bootcamp Challenge)
*Get 7-8 hours of sleep every night (this is my next challenge...and challenging it will be :))

My Program:
I am in maintenance mode diet-wise. I consume 1,470 - 1,820 calories per day and try to stay in my carb, fat, and protein ranges daily. I drink at least 8 cups of water a day (usually more) and usually always have at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies everyday. I am working on incorporating exercise into my program: 10 minutes of strength training per day, 10-30 minutes of cardio exercise 5 times a week, and 15-30 minutes of Yoga/stretching per day.

Ok, so what have you not done yet that you would like to do? I ordered Salsa dancing lessons and a belly dancing workout from Netflix. Also thinking about kicking up some more PS3 Motion Controls so that I can play Sports champion volleyball with my son and try the Zumba video game.
