(written Sept 2010) My name is Jessica, I live in NC and I'm no stranger to exercise or dieting for that matter. I got into running early 2009 and ran a 10K in April of 2009. I loved the thrill of the race, the motivation of having an audience and a goal to work towards. I even ran a 10 mile race in April of 2010! Even through all of that running, I never lost a pound or changed clothes sizes. Since then I took a more serious approach to eating healthier and I have gone from a size 10/12 to an 8 on my own through smaller portions, paying attention to my caloric intake and varied exercises. I joined our gym nearby and started spinning & various other classes, running around my neighborhood and just finding different ways to keep active.
I used to obsess about my weight and the scale, but I feel like I have a more balanced view of my weight and being healthy at this stage of my life. I like the way I look now overall, but being that I'm 5 foot 2 inches and 140 pounds, I know I should be smaller and I want to be smaller and stay that way. I felt that I looked my best at 125-128 pounds and I was lifting weights at that time. I was doing "body for life" which focuses strongly on lifting weights. My real goal is to wear a size 6 instead of focusing so much on the scale.
(May, 2012) Started eating differently. Most of the time I eat like this: No refined carbs (flour, corn), no white potatoes, no sugar, no preservatives. Only whole grains, legumes, vegetables and meat.
May, 2012 updated:
Goal #1 = 80% of the time eat this way: No grains whatsoever, no white potatoes, no sugar except honey, no fake sugars, no preservatives. Eat within range of 1200-1400 cal/day.
Goal #2 Hit a 4 week streak of 5 day/week workouts.
Goal #3 See the number 135 on the scale.
Goal #4 Below 130 lbs
Goal #5 Run another 5k
Goal #6 Lower my cholesterol by next January, 2013
Goal #7 Start using a heart rate monitor
Various classes at the gym: Spinning, Zumba, Body Attack. Crossfit once a week when I'm on track. Also biking and running outside.
I'm 34 yrs old, married, have no children, one dog and one demon cat. I'm one of Jehovah's Witnesses and live in beautiful North Carolina.
I enjoy photography, organizing, frugality, personal finance, cooking, traveling, reading, odd jokes, sarcasm and I've been told I am quirky and weird.
