Thanks for your comment on my blog about my Jeff Galloway retreat experience. It was just fabulous in many respects: what I learned, where I was and the great people I met (and am already in touch with).
To answer your question..yes: 1:1s are 1 minute of running followed by 1 minute of walking (and then repeat). 30:30s are 30 seconds of each. I will admit I was skeptical and thought this was a really wimpy approach, but when I actually timed myself today doing 1:1s vs 30:30s, I was surprised at how much better the 30:30s were, which I started in the middle of my workout. And this was on my 4th day in a row of running..going 1 mile longer each day (from 2 to 5.36). And I feel fine ... no leg problems, no knee pain. If you can get to a seminar or join a Galloway running group in Atlanta, I highly recommend it. And when you see Jeff, tell him Andrea from the January retreat says hello. 2377 days ago
Hi Janice. I got my VFF in mid December, so they are pretty new. I ran in them 5 times so far. the first run was a 1.5 mile on the treadmill...then 3 miles on treadmill...then 6 miles on the treadmill...so much for slowly building up. those 3 runs felt great and I had no issue what-so-ever. Then I decided (since it was a nice day) to give the a try outside and went on a 4 mile run. It was fun. I ran very well. I did step the wrong way on a rock and it hurt a lot. The next day my calf muscles were so sore I found it hard to manage stairs. In fact they were sore for about a whole week. It's pretty obvious that I run a little bit different on the treadmill then outside. Then just late last week I did another 4 miles in my VFF on the treadmill. I am looking forward to going out with them again...see if I will be as sore. but right now the roads are snow covered. I expect it's gonna be a while before I run with them outside again. gail 2399 days ago
