Making The Right Choice - One Day at A Time

Losing weight takes time. But no matter how long it takes, I've figured out that I'm totally worth the journey!

My name is Jeanette, and I am finally taking control of my weight, and my health. I am a result today of the choices I made yesterday - so in order to change my tomorrow, I must make the right decisions day by day. So easy to say....so hard to do!

I'm 42 years old, and have two beautiful daughters that I want to set a good example for. By setting them on the right path EARLY in their lives....they can avoid the health problems that seem to run in my family.

It's a process that takes time, but we have to be convinced of the truth - we're worth it. We are valuable - not just in and of ourselves, but to the people who depend on us every day. So we must take care of ourselves in order to be strong for our families.

==============================
TO REMIND ME OF WHY I DO THIS...
==============================
I was out walking in our neighborhood, and kept hearing little footsteps behind me. I turned around, and there was my 6-year-old, following me. She was walking with this funny gait - swinging her arms back and forth and had a determined look on her face. I stopped and said "What are you doing, lil' bit? (her nickname, because she's no bigger than a minute!) She looked up at me and said "Mom, I'm going to be just like you when I grow up."

**GULP**

I was proud...but it was a reality check. Even when I think they're not paying attention, my girls are watching. They see what I do...and also what I DON'T do. If I make excuses on eating healthy, or exercise - guess what? So will they. I really don't want to screw this up. It's one thing to "want" to be a role model. But when you get proof that you ARE...it makes you really watch what you do. So for their precious sakes, Dear Sweet Baby Jesus (as a SparkFriend loves to say!), PLEASE let me guide them in the right way...

I want to model a lifestyle that embraces health and wellness. I want it to be such a part of my life that it seems effortless. Natural. I long for the day when I don't have to obsess about every calorie, because I know that I've developed a habit of eating well.

===================
GOALS...
===================

1. Re-start and FINISH C25K.
I started and got up to a 20 minute run...then got stuck. No matter what I tried, my mind/body wouldn't let me run any longer than 20 minutes. I know I have a runner inside me...she's just somewhere taking Advil. LOL!

2. EAT MINDFULLY, BUT DON'T OBSESS.
I don't want to obsess over every calorie. But hold on...I'm not looking for a license to overeat. Let me explain...
For most people, being overweight traps them into one way of life. The extra pounds hinder them from fully participating in the life they want. But it also works the other way...if you're so busy obsessing over every calorie, fat gram or scale fluctuation - you're still trapped, and not living the life you want.

There is a popular saying on SparkPeople..."Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels!" I can see the meaning, but I had to personalize it. For me,

"Nothing tastes as good as PEACE feels."

I need to make peace with this lifestyle change; not to see it as a drudgery or a chore, but as welcome changes that only serve to enrich and extend my life, and the living thereof. Not make my life surround what goes into my mouth. In either way (heavy or skinny).

3. STOP EATING MY EMOTIONS.
...feel whatever it is I need to feel, deal with it and move on. The only problem food solves is physical hunger. Find a creative outlet and express myself daily.

4. Drink a minimum of 64 oz. of water each day.

5. Weigh and measure at the beginning of the month, and not again until the end of the month. No stressing over 1-2 lb. loss/gain each day.

6. CONSISTENT EXERCISE
I need to show up, and get it done for at least 30 to 45 minutes - every day.

The Aquarian child is some how an isolated only child when growing up and therefore gets lots of attention from adults. She becomes a "free thinker" and is very smart. She really isn't made to be a "stay-at-home-mom" as she has so much to give to the world. She makes a good teacher, scientist, or designer as she has new ideas. She loves people and can move from place to place with ease and make new "best friends forever." She gets along with Sagittarius, Libra, Aries, Leo and Gemini. She wouldn't do well with controlling Scorpio as she MUST have her freedom. Her weak areas are the ankles. She isn't cut out to be obese as she needs to move about freely. Denise Austin is a wonderful example of an Aquarian woman. She is turning 56 and still very "young". She's 5'4" and 112# but very strong.

In Aquarius the Sun is eccentric and original. You're apt to be a superb thinker, and your ideas are frequently advanced, no matter what field of profession you select. Often, your unique approaches to problem solving are viewed as too radical and unworkable, but you prefer to think of them as advanced and progressive instead. Unconventional and outspoken, you see your role as the rebel and the person who rejects worn out traditions and old ways of operating. You like to be with those ushering in the new order and fostering advanced thinking.
Paradoxically, you're a good team player, but one who must have personal freedom. You don't like to feel fenced in. While you're headstrong and inflexible in your ways, you can work very effectively within a large group. You have complete respect for the sound ideas put forward by others. You are aloof and detached, and your concerns are directed toward society rather than to the problems of any one person. You are somewhat impersonal most of the time. You're more emotionally involved with your work than you are with people. You can be highly critical and demanding in a position of authority. Nonetheless, you are a strong leader and organizer. You have a deep understanding of human nature, but often you lack sensitivity to the emotional content of many situations.

You thrive on change and managing the unexpected. Always ahead of your time, you are viewed by everyone as being different and unusual, labels you don't mind accepting. You pride yourself on your ability to find a better way of doing the job. Sometimes you lack follow through, and you always dislike routine. You like to take chances and keep everything stirred up. Occasionally, you enjoy antagonizing people in positions of authority, and stimulating a good argument now and then. You don't mind that you are seen as a bit unusual, in fact, you may encourage this image.
Equality, freedom and fairness are all important issues for you. You strongly subscribe to the doctrine that all people are created equal and should have the same rights and opportunities. In this regard, you are likely to be classified as a progressive and often associated with humanitarian issues and causes. Though you are very involved with such matters, your approach is always somewhat in the abstract, with ideological concepts, the sort that don't usually stem from true emotions. Your approach is often very impersonal and detached.
Friendly and sociable, you may have a wide circle of acquaintances. Friends are very important to you. Intellectually oriented, you are happiest with friends that share common ideas and interests. Strangely, you find it more difficult to cultivate a truly satisfying intimate relationship. This aloofness exists because feelings are rarely expressed outwardly, and you usually seem distant. You resist anything or anyone threatening your independence.
