I am 31 and have recently finished grad school. I have made my school and career a priority in my life for the last 10-12 years. In that time, I have stopped focusing on my health and well-being. I have stopped making sure that I am happy and that I feel good about myself. I am still working irregular hours and have a high stress job and career. Rather than continuing to wait until things get easier or I have more time, I have realized that I need to take better care of myself.

I get in my own way so often that the key to success this time around will not just be eating better and exercising but trying to make a change mentally and emotionally. This is one thing that sounds so easy in theory. The idea that if there is something you are unhappy with, just change it. In practice though this is so difficult. But I am committed to making a positive change. So any recommendations and suggestions are welcome!

I want to lose weight but ultimate goal is to be healthier. I am still not super sure what will work best for me but starting off I am just going to reduce my caloric intake while maintaining a more balanced diet and actually start exercising.

Personal Information:
I am originally from Huntington Beach, CA and then I went to grad school in Dallas, TX. I recently moved (late May) to Milwaukee, WI for a job. Moving by myself to a new city is a little bit scary and if I am brave enough to do that, then I should be brave enough to change my life for the better and work towards a healthier, stronger me.

Other Information:
I am trying to find exercise options that work for me. There is a gym across the street from my job but it is populated by very fit undergraduates and I am more than a little intimidated. I am trying to work up the attitude of "so what" to that but I would like to have a varied routine so anyone from the area that has some suggestions, I welcome them :)

    I too just started over. I've been a member for a while and never really did anything with it. I just turned 31 in May and have a family and full time job. My excuse is where is the time? I don't have time to myself. But I'm going to do it this time. I started my page over and updated everything and put my goals and plan in writing on my page. That way I know exactly what I have to do. I also started a Couch 2 5K yesterday. It feels good. We can do it if we stick to it. Good luck!

Utilize all the tools SP has to offer. I find tracking my food and exercise most helpful. Good luck on your weight loss journey!
