Hello everyone and welcome to my SparkPage.

I found this program at age 58 (about 3 years before retirement), 38 pounds overweight, reasonably out of shape, and pretty disgusted with my body, my lack of will power, my energy level, and my feeble atempts to hide my buldges in any but the baggiest of clothes.

What a difference this program has made! Oh...I'm not there yet, but I WILL BE!!

OK about me - other than my weight. I have finally retired although I still occasionally interpret for Deaf folks - when I have the time. I live in the mountains in NM (there is a winter picture of my house in my gallery).

No kids of my own, so I enjoy spoiling the youngins of my family, friends, co-workers, aquaintences, people I meet in restaurants...well, you get the idea.

I am definitely keeping busy in retiement! In addition to Spark, I am making part of my land into a Wildlife Habitat/Sanctuary. I have a good start with the feeding program. I have 6 hummingbird feeders which I have to fill several times a day (hungry little buggers - I've already gone through 100 lbs of sugar this summer). I also have 7 bird , 4 squirrel/chipmunk, and 3 rabbit feeders. That is something that will get you out of bed in the morning. The hummingbirds are there at dawn, and if one of the feeders is empty, they GLARE at me through the window.

The next step - starting now - is to build habitats - brush and wood piles, bird houses, and other shelters for the winter - and a shed for all the materials and feed. I can't tell you how much fun I'm having and how much exercise I'm getting!

Hi! I was born in Stockton, California on May 4, 1948 (good year). I am about 30 pounds, depending on what graph you look at. So glad to hear from another 60 year old.

Hi, Just wondering how you are doing. I have not been very active in Spark People here lately, but I want to change that and get back into the spirit!
Last year (2008) saw so many major events - a daughter getting married, another daughter having a baby, hurricane Ike forcing an evacuation, my Dad critically ill in the hospital - and I just stopped working on my goals.
Tonight I went to my page and saw you there, and thought I would write. Hope you are well. I am a cat person and I hope your cats are well also!
A happy new year to you. Wanda

Hi, my name is Phyllis. I was born in June 1948. I only just joined SP 2 weeks ago and am feeling better already (only lost 3.5lbs so I am just a learner).
I put on the pounds without even thinking about it for various reasons but I am hoping through dedication to SP, I will return to my "normal" weight.
Thank you for opening this thread.

Hello, I am a new member and this is actually my first post! I am 58 yrs old, born in 1949, so I am close to you in age. I love cats and see that you have a lovely cat on your Sparkpage. Your first few sentences describe how I feel, but I am encouraged seeing that you have lost quite a bit of weight. I need to loose about 25 lbs and right now that seems like an impossible dream. I will have to get busy. I am the mother of 4 and the grandmother of 4 ( # 5 due in Sept) so I have many reasons to live a healthy life. I also love to read and I also spend too much time surfing the internet! We have some things in common! I greatly admire your work with deaf children. I'm sure that is very rewarding work.
I hope to hear from you sometime. Have a nice day.
