This is how I felt BEFORE I found SparkPeople!
2010 at Retirement
They don't have to match - I'm retired!
Hello everyone and welcome to my SparkPage.
I found this program at age 58 (about 3 years before retirement), 38 pounds overweight, reasonably out of shape, and pretty disgusted with my body, my lack of will power, my energy level, and my feeble atempts to hide my buldges in any but the baggiest of clothes.
What a difference this program has made! Oh...I'm not there yet, but I WILL BE!!
OK about me - other than my weight. I have finally retired although I still occasionally interpret for Deaf folks - when I have the time. I live in the mountains in NM (there is a winter picture of my house in my gallery).
No kids of my own, so I enjoy spoiling the youngins of my family, friends, co-workers, aquaintences, people I meet in restaurants...well, you get the idea.
I am definitely keeping busy in retiement! In addition to Spark, I am making part of my land into a Wildlife Habitat/Sanctuary. I have a good start with the feeding program. I have 6 hummingbird feeders which I have to fill several times a day (hungry little buggers - I've already gone through 100 lbs of sugar this summer). I also have 7 bird , 4 squirrel/chipmunk, and 3 rabbit feeders. That is something that will get you out of bed in the morning. The hummingbirds are there at dawn, and if one of the feeders is empty, they GLARE at me through the window.
The next step - starting now - is to build habitats - brush and wood piles, bird houses, and other shelters for the winter - and a shed for all the materials and feed. I can't tell you how much fun I'm having and how much exercise I'm getting!

Born in 48! I'm newly retired and interested in being healthier...thus losing some weight. I've 4 birdfeeders, live in Upstate NY...where the temperature that last two days has been below -10...so the feeders become quite important. Three days after joining SparkPeople I slipped on ice while walking the dogs and broke my patella...knee. It's been a month since the surgery and I've a long, long way to go. My appetite seems to be returning and I've logged on today to track my food. I should be up and about by spring...so there's no sense wasting this time.
Keep up the good work...I admire your perseverance!

My next goal is to totally lose 43 pounds and after that move on to losing 50 pounds. In life survive student teaching, working, caring for my Mom, husband, and three kids.

Just read a comment you made on a blog about what you do for 'comfort'. I am so moved about your choice to buy individual items for youth on the streets. It sounds like a wonderful program- rewarding and life-building for all involved! Is it through a public program, a church, a school? I'm curious ... and very impressed.

Oh man I NEED a pair of the purple shoes. I have a pair of converse red high tops, a pair of green and a pair of orange with Hawaiian flowers on them. I did find a pair of pink ones but they were more the color of the socks in the picture. I may still have to go back and buy them
I wear mine ALL THE TIME. Because I'm 56 and I can do what I want and I don't care what anyone including the hubby or my kids think of my "cool shoes"
