A year & 1/2 ago I joined the gym & started eating better & to my surprise I actually almost enjoyed it. Starting feeling good & lost almost 25 lbs. & my greatest feat was going from less than 1 min on the elliptical to 42 min. A year & 1/2 ago I joined the gym & started eating better & to my surprise I actually almost enjoyed it. Starting feeling good & lost almost 25 lbs. & my greatest feat was going from less than 1 min on the elliptical to 42 min. I had a setback when I ended up w/a hairline fracture in my foot which sidelined me a bit. After a couple of months it finally felt well enough to resume my workouts. For a couple of days anyway. I was sidelined yet again when I was involved in a car accident where I was injured pretty badly. Being inactive led to the gain of the lost weight & then some. After 6 mo of recovering from the accident I finally feel well enough to try to get back on the wagon. After the accident I had canceled my gym memebership. I renewed my memebership yesterday & went back today for my 1st workout since all that mess. I kept talking myself out of it throughout the day & even came striaght home after work. I guilt-tripped myself for not going & did eventually make it there. OMG...I started out treadmill to ease into it. I'm still having some shoulder problems so I wanted to take it slow. After 30 min I moved to the elliptical...let's just say I can no longer do 42 min! I hate the elliptical w/a passion so my goal is to master it again. I started w/6 sloooow min today....PHEW!!

Welcome to the 30+ club ! The way I look at it, you gotta start somewhere. I lost 20 lbs about the same time you did and made excuses in April to stop working out on the treadmill, your story is all to familiar, lol. But I figured it's ok, I pick myself up and dust myself off and I'm slowly making some changes to get back on track. For goodness sakes I ate a breakfast taco this morning! But I will have a better lunch and dinner and perhaps add some walking in today. One step at a time, I know I can do it and so can you! So have a great day and feel free to contact me if you just want to chat or vent or celebrate your progress! Good Luck!! emoticon

Hello and welcome to Sparkpeople.com,

I'm pretty new at this myself, but wanted to let you know that it's o.k. to just jump right in and play, i.e. "click. click. click". It's how I have been learning my way around. So far I have encountered only splendid, encouraging and helpful people. I hope you try isometric exercise, it's perfect for adults with mobility issues, chronic pain, have been sedentary for a while, or who tire easily. Yet even if you're at the top of your game, isometrics can give you the added edge towards meeting your goals, even if that is finishing a triathlon! emoticon
You can find it on my page, just click the "Isometrics For The Rest of Us" icon.
Stop by and say hello. It's Spark Time!
