I would like to tell you about National Walking Month, which is October! Each year Health Enhancement Systems sponsors Walktober, a national walking campaign. The Walktober website calls it an “inspiring program is designed to boost your energy and improve your health by making fitness walking a habit during October… and beyond.”
There is a great group on SparkPeople called Walktober Sparks, and I would love for you to become a part of this group. This group is for Sparkers who wish to find their Walktober Muse and enjoy this inspiring campaign in the spirit of laughter and perhaps a bit of competition. Of course, you do not have to join the national campaign to Sparktober during Walktober, but if you wish, there is a $4 fee to join ($20 if you want the tshirt). I personally think it is worth it, but many people just do not want to pay that fee. That is okay with us! : )
Some fun things you will find in the Walktober Sparks team: Walk Talk is where we report our daily exercise. It sort of keeps us accountable to ourselves and each other. We might think of breaking into groups for a little friendly competition. Just for FUN forums include a daily totally useless trivia question and a more serious daily question. We are also looking for forum & activity ideas, so jump in with your suggestions!
Some things you will find on the Walktober Site: The interactive calendar is a fun way to track walking (you choose whether to track steps or minutes)! I wish we had it all year long! Walktober sends you an inspiring email every day, along with a photo of the day and a recipe of the day. If this group gets big enough, we can even divide into competitive teams of 4 or more, and Walktober will track our progress. It is a great compliment to SparkPeople, but it only lasts ONE MONTH. I hope we can all find a Walktober Muse that will keep us moving all year long!
