A Healthier Me

I've dieted on an off for years, losing then gaining weight. This time, I am determined to lose the weight and keep it off. For some reason, I've become "right minded" about weight loss and exercise. I think it may be because I've gotten older and it's about being healthy now, not a specific, unattainable clothing size or number on a scale. Because I've changed that mindset, I'm actually enjoying my workouts.

My Goals:
Long-term goals are:

Be a good influence on my son

Continue on my healthy journey

run a second half marathon

Medium term goals:

Lose 20 lbs and work out consistently in the next three months.

My Program:
My son sees me running, doing yoga, and weight training, as well as eating healthy. He has now started doing yoga with me and eating his vegetables. Yay!

I follow the spark food tracker. I realize I will use this or some sort of food journal for the rest of my life. It is an excellent tool to help me manage my food intake.

I work out 7 days a week. My passion is running. 6 days of cardio (usually running with rowing, elliptical, or kick boxing as cross-training), 6 days of weight training (I work a different muscle group each time, that way I can train those muscles harder), and one day of yoga.

Other Information:
This year has given me some setbacks. I am currently refreshing my motivation.

JALEXA.

I saw your questions on the dailySpark blog. Unfortunately, there is not a black and white answer for the questions you posed, however, what I have read from a number of running experts is it depends on your training and upcoming race schedule. If you are preparing for an important race, it is noted that running should be your focus followed by strength training. This does not mean you cannot strength train, but you want to make sure you do not do so the day before your LSD run. This run is the foundation to build all your other runs around.

Doing a full body workout 2 times a week on a cross training day might be an option, but once again depending on what you are training for will determine the direction. I will say if the only days you have time to ST is on your running days, do so after your runs so that you have fully loaded glycogen stores. But remember, this is dependent on what your goals are. If you want to build lean body mass and use running as a aerobic activity, than doing ST first followed by running would be your focus.

Does this help?
Nancy

Thanks for adding me. I add you too. Always can use a new friend. Maddie is an Australian Sheppard. She has been a great addition to the family. Herding breeds are great. I use to raise OES (Old English Sheepdogs). They were a laugh a minute when they would try to herd my ducks and geese. They had a little bit luck with my horses. Have a great weekend. ~ Lin
