Jae's Journey to health

My weight story is that I have lost and gained the same 10 to 15 pounds numerous times. In high school and college I worked out all the time. I lifted weights (love it!) and incorporated many different classes and/or machines for cardio. I was a gym rat and loved it. I dreamed of being a personal trainer and possibly owning my own gym someday. I really admired the fitness competitors in the pages of M&F hers.

My eating was never stellar (marked with episodes of crash dieting and bingeing). I never really believed that what I ate was more important than how I trained (I get it now!) As life progressed, I got away from the exercise, and sort of forgot about my dream.

I currently weigh about 10 - 15 pounds more than when I graduated high school, and I probably needed to lose 5 -10 lbs then. So, I would like to see a 15 to 20 pound decrease, but reduction in body fat is more my goal than weight loss. We'll see what I weigh when I reach optimal bodyfat %.

Through SP I have been motivated by people who have achieved the dream I used to have. It has been awakened in me again. Now, a little wiser, and a little more mature, I have the tools I need to reach those goals. I currently weigh about 150 lbs (5'5") and have about 23% bodyfat. I would like to get down to about 17% bodyfat. Without losing too much lean body weight (muscle mass), I think that will put me between 130 and 135 lbs. Maybe I can land myself in a magazine some day (dreaming big here)!

I have recently been learning about the Paleo diet, and it makes sense to me. I decided to try it and got (mostly) on board last week (7/11/11). As of yesterday I am grain free, and am working toward being dairy free. I'll update on how this works for me. I think it's important to experiment and find what works best for each individual, and I think this may be the ticket for me! I have some fairly serious autoimmune "issues" and have read that some people have had fantastic results following the paleo diet. It's definitely worth a try!

My Goals:
Be a healthy role model for my daughter.

Achieve total fitness, reaching the best realistic size and shape for my body - I don't know what that number is on the scale.

Possibly become a personal trainer - it used to be a dream of mine, and has recently come back to mind.

My Program:
Resistance training 3-4 times per week.

Cardio 3 - 4 times per week.

Eat clean/Paleo

Personal Information:
I'm 33, married, and the mother of the most wonderful 2 1/2-year-old girl - she is my world! I work full time. My BS is in psychology. I love to snow ski, to read, and to spend time with my family (I have a large extended family that is close-knit). I'm a Christian woman. I believe that I can do anything through Christ who gives me strength. I love people - I love to socialize, to get to know people, and to help if I can - though sometimes I want to help when it's not really my place! Learning to curb that!

Thank you for stopping by. I love the goals you have outlined on your page. It's so easy to become a scale junkie and it's really detrimental to our journey sometimes. I'm glad you have that in perspective. emoticon
