I'm ready to lose some pounds and start looking good. I've been sorta trying for a number of years but this year I mean it - and plan to make it work. This is a start...

June 2008 10 things about me...

1. I was born and raised in Minnesota. We lived here year around until we retired and the kids were out of college. Then we sold our big family home and bought land in Culebra, PR and built a home to live in for winters. We still live in MN summers in a small cabin on an island which we own. Our PR adventure got more involved but I'll not discuss that in this short note.

2. I have five children. Deb 48, Tim 47, Sue 46, Bob 44 and Jo 40. Four grandchildren and one great grand son.

3. Butch built a hobby greenhouse for me which I enjoyed for about 20 years before we sold our family home. I have been involved with Hobby Greenhouse Association ever since. I've been on the board and corresponding in 'robins' for over 20 years and have written a column in their quarterly magazine for 17 years - all volunteer work.

4. I am a Catholic.

5. My birthday is October 31, 1936.

6. For 26 years I worked two days a week in a family owned motel bar and restaurant which we sold in 1989. When we moved to PR, DH and I bought a 3-unit guesthouse which I am still owner and manager. Presently I take all calls and reservations and work 2 - 5 hours a day.

7. I have been married to my husband, Butch (Robert or Bob but he likes Butch) , for 49 years. Our 50th anniversary will be Aug. 29. My health is good. I've had many non threatening surgeries the most serious were two knee replacements more than 15 years ago and a carotid artery surgery.

8. Major hobbies are traveling, genealogy and gardening. The last 5 years we've taken road trips in the USA for 3 - 6 weeks in spring and fall. I've alway been an avid swimmer. My first job was teaching swimming. When we started traveling to the Caribbean I started scuba diving and we did a lot of bareboat sailing.

9. My favorite volunteer work was Master Gardener. I retired from it when we moved twice a year to and from PR.

10. This year we have our guesthouse for sale. When it sells we probably will buy a home in a warm state for winter living.
2 years ago I lost 37 pounds. I kept it off most of the year, then gained 3 pounds - so what the heck... and it went on like that until I gained about 20 of it back.

Sept. 2016 This August we took a road trip for 3 weeks in the US. I put on about 8 pounds in that time alone however, 5 of it was immediately lost when we got home to sensible eating.

I am wearing the same stretchy 2 pair of pants and a few shirts that fit my overweight body and will not buy more clothes...I have plenty at my lower weight. So to fit in my clothing is a goal, to look better is another and for my health is the major reason I must lose weight...goal is at least 20 pounds...

My Goals:
To lose 10% of my weight bye end of the year. This will put me into the 140's. It is a challenge of 3# a month and should be doable for me.

To do this I'll eat healthy, bike and walk...

My Program:
I never had a weight problem until my knees detoriated when I was about 50 yrs. Inactivity started the weight gain which I didn't acknowledge until it dawned on me that that was me in the photos and I had to do something about it.

I was a dietitian in a hospital after college so I thought I knew - I didn't! I had to relearn and Sparks is teaching me now.

Personal Information:
I have lived in St. Paul, MN or a suburb for 60 years. When the kids went to college (and the dog died) we sold our home and moved to Culebra Island, PR for winters and spend summers in our Minnesota cabin. We started 3 businesses in PR, Recently have sold 2 and the 3rd is for sale. We will then move to another warm climate - probably SW FL.

Other Information:
I had a Hobby Greenhouse for 20+ years and write a quarterly column for their magazine. I'm a retired Master Gardener, but keep updated on their activities. Recently I have started building my Family Tree and hope to expand on that hobby. I also love to read.
I worked in a family owned motel, bar and restaurnat for 30 years. In PR we boutght a guesthouse so still am involved in the wonderful business of tending to my guests.
Married 49 years. Have 5 kids and 4 grandkids.

I just read what I wrote a year ago about MN spring and was surprised I can't remember that horrible spring I described. I guess it is overshadowed by the horrible 2014 winter this year with record breaking temperatures an snow.

We are so fortunate to be snowbirds living in AZ to avoid the discomforts of MN winters. We'll head back north at end of May and expect to have a lovely summer as MN always provides.

arguh... My usual glee to hear about MN winters, when we have been able to avoid them, is chilled when I hear about the horrendeous 2013 NO spring. But, I can't wish this on anybody... sooooo unbelievable...

What I hear is that everyone is mad and distressed over it... Our folks need spring and are not going to get it ...

We will be back in three weeks - by now we usually expect our docks to be repaired and in, and our cabin to be somewhat cleaned up for the winter grime...heck no one can get to it to see what winter has wrought...

Thanks for the horrid news Annie :) I do have to face the music...:) emoticon
