I am in the middle of recovering from reconstructive surgery to my left foot and ankle (car accident). I was really atheletic growing up, so how I ate was not much of an issue. Now I'm pushing 40, have 3 children, and my first Grandbaby. They really need my energy - just as much as I need their hugs and kisses when I've totally blown it.
I lived in Austin about almost 2 years ago and discovered SparkPeople. I had some success, but as soon as we came back to Ft. Worth, people (i.e., friends & family), places (i.e., Swiss Pastry Shop, Railhead BBQ), and things ( like expanded cable, the recliner, etc.), drew me into straight-up food relapse.
Having to face the possibility of loosing my left foot and never walking again has impacted me immensely. (Amputation, seriously? Chocolate cake and Jack Daniels, anyone?) You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone became the refrain for my broken record blues.
Fortunately, the love of my kids and husband keeps me motivated towards change. Once I laid my comforts on the altar, God blessed me will the opportunity to heal (inside, outside) and I WILL make the most of it! I know, I know, you've heard this from me before, you say. But God said, "To whom much is given, much is required". This "new" foot could only His gift, so I'm giving him a disciplined lifestyle as my thanks.
And it always helps to remind myself of a truthful quote from Mike Tyson - "Every one has a plan ... until the get punched in the face." So if I accept the inevitable, I can do the impossible, with God. And a "with a little help from my friends!"
