18 kilo is about 40 lbs. Here in Canada we are 'officialy' metric, but the government backed down on the compliance when the US backed out of their intention to change (this during late 70's) so our cars are metric, our packaging is printed metric, our temperatures are metric but we still wigh ourselves in pounds, calculate our fuel economy in miles per imperial gallon (what a series of conversions that is whew), and we cook in cups and grams and usually forget that US quarts are smaller than imperial quarts, but why would we need that now that we are metric....US quart close enough to a litre anyway. In other words we are confused. Much of our media, TV, magazines, web pages, are US based they are soooo big and we are barely 10% of their population on three times the land mass.
