Hi! I'm a PhD student in good ole' Tucson AZ. I'm currently finishing my dissertation, and want to reach a healthy BMI by the time I plan to graduate in 2012.

In addition to SP, I joined Weight Watchers on Nov. 7th 2009. It has been great so far! I feel like the added support at the WW meetings combined with the tools on SP makes my transformation to a new lifestyle easier.

I joined SP to help me reach my main goal -- to reach and learn how to maintain a healthy weight/BMI at 130 lbs. I have been overweight/obese for most of my life (since I was 10) and want to change that for the rest of my adult life. Losing weight and maintaining it has always been a constant struggle, and I hope that surrounding myself with the right resources and attitudes will help me learn how!

Fitness Minutes: 2,037

My Goals:
1) Reach "WW official goal weight" of 146.

2) Maintain (at or below 146) for 6 weeks to reach
WW Lifetime member status.

2b) Create a before-and-after photo collage.

2c) Buy a really nice handbag/purse.

3) Incorporate a regular strength training (Jillian Michael's No More Trouble Zones 1-2 x/week)

4) Reach goal weight of 125-130.

5) Incorporate a daily flexibility routine (Yoga? Pilates? 10-15 minutes each day).

6) Build up to jogging 5K's (finishing C25K plan).

7) Train and complete a half-marathon.

- Go back and complete the "Romero Pools" hike.

- Hike into and inside the Grand Canyon.

- Finish my dissertation and GRADUATE!


My Program:
Workout with Jillian Michael's DVD "Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism" and general walking/jogging, until I hit 140-146 lbs.

Start Jillian Michael's DVD "No More Trouble Zones" to get me rebuilding muscle. Hopefully, I can do this on my way to my "unofficial" goal weight of 125-130.

Maintenance phase: Do a Jillian Michael's DVD 2-3 times/week. Also, I want to take up yoga and start working on building flexibility.

(I'm Jillian Michael's number one fan!! Can't you tell?)

Eating: Sticking on plan with Weight Watchers guidelines.



Personal Information:
I'm a Chicago native (go White Sox!) and longtime Boston resident (go Red Sox!), now living in Tucson, AZ.

I'm currently chasing my dream of getting my PhD in Math and Theoretical Astrophysics, and of becoming one of the very few female professors in my field!

I'm also a musician (vocalist) when I'm not a mathematician/scientist.

I also *love* playing video games, and fix broken Nintendos and games for my friends.
